Iraheta is a Salvadoran born in Glendale, California. According to her parents, she has been singing since she was a toddler. Before rising to prominence, she usually sang in local Latin supermarkets.
In 2006, Iraheta won the Telemundo reality show Quinceañera, where she sang in both English and Spanish. The prize was a reward of USD $50,000 and a recording contract, but only the reward money was ever granted.
In 2009, Allison Iraheta competed on American Idol. She achieved acclaim for her rock sound and unique style, making it into the finals. Allison remained on the show until being eliminated at the final four, finishing in 4th place. The mentor of that week, Slash, praised Iraheta, saying, "Allison didn't deserve to be voted off so soon. She has amazing potential." American Idol music director Rickey Minor was "absolutely shocked" at her departure.
After her elimination on Idol, Iraheta made guest appearances on Live with Regis and Kelly, The Ellen Degeneres Show, Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Larry King Live, local FOX television affiliates, and numerous radio stations nation-wide. She performed on the season eight finale of American Idol, including a group medley of Pink's "So What" with her fellow contestants and a duet of "Time After Time" with original artist Cyndi Lauper.

Beat Me Up
Allison Iraheta Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Change your mind or change your ways, ways, ways
You got me running through a maze, maze, maze
I know this isn't just a phase, phase, phase
You always pick me up
And then you hold me down
I'll never let you go
'Cause baby, even though you beat me up, beat me up
I still love you 'cause you heat me up, heat me up
And that's why every time you hit me up, hit me up
I come running 'cause you fix me up, fix me up
Oh baby just beat me up, beat me up
Oh baby just beat me up, beat me up
You always make me do those things, things, things
Shut me up then make me sing, sing, sing
You love it when I scream your name, name
But you get your kicks out of causing me pain, pain, pain
You always pick me up
And then you hold me down
I guess you never know
'Cause baby, even though you beat me up, beat me up
I still love you 'cause you heat me up, heat me up
And that's why every time you hit me up, hit me up
I come running 'cause you fix me up, fix me up
Oh baby just beat me up, beat me up
Oh baby just beat me up, beat me up
Oh baby just beat me up, beat me up
I love you even though you beat me up, beat me up
And I really don't care what they say about me
'Cause it gives me everything I want
And they don't know what it's like when you need somebody
To the point they can do no wrong
We always fight and then I open up my door
'Cause baby, even though you beat me up, beat me up
I still love you 'cause you heat me up, heat me up
And that's why every time you hit me up, hit me up
I come running 'cause you fix me up, fix me up
Oh baby just beat me up, beat me up
I still love you 'cause you heat me up, heat me up
And that's why every time you hit me up, hit me up
I come running 'cause you fix me up, fix me up
Oh baby just beat me up, beat me up
Oh baby just beat me up, beat me up
I love you even though you beat me up, beat me up
Oh baby just beat me up, beat me up
Oh baby just beat me up, beat me up
Oh baby just beat me up, beat me up
I love you even though you beat me up, beat me up
The song "Beat Me Up" by Allison Iraheta explores the theme of a toxic and abusive relationship that the singer is unable to let go of. The opening lines "You like to keep me on a train, train, train/Change your mind or change your ways, ways, ways/You got me running through a maze, maze, maze/I know this isn't just a phase, phase, phase" suggest the singer's confusion and feeling of being trapped in the relationship. She feels like she is constantly moving in circles and can never quite figure out what her partner wants. Despite all this, she is unable to let go of the relationship and is still in love with her partner.
The chorus of the song "Cause baby, even though you beat me up, beat me up/I still love you 'cause you heat me up, heat me up/And that's why every time you hit me up, hit me up/I come running 'cause you fix me up, fix me up/Oh baby just beat me up, beat me up/Oh baby just beat me up, beat me up" highlights the singer's conflicting emotions. She acknowledges the abuse but she still loves her partner for the emotional highs that she experiences with him. The bridge of the song "And I really don't care what they say about me/'Cause it gives me everything I want/And they don't know what it's like when you need somebody/To the point they can do no wrong" suggests that the singer is willing to tolerate the abuse because she feels like she needs her partner.
Overall, "Beat Me Up" is a powerful song that highlights the dangerous cycle of abuse and the emotional turmoil that comes with being in a toxic relationship.
