Iraheta is a Salvadoran born in Glendale, California. According to her parents, she has been singing since she was a toddler. Before rising to prominence, she usually sang in local Latin supermarkets.
In 2006, Iraheta won the Telemundo reality show Quinceañera, where she sang in both English and Spanish. The prize was a reward of USD $50,000 and a recording contract, but only the reward money was ever granted.
In 2009, Allison Iraheta competed on American Idol. She achieved acclaim for her rock sound and unique style, making it into the finals. Allison remained on the show until being eliminated at the final four, finishing in 4th place. The mentor of that week, Slash, praised Iraheta, saying, "Allison didn't deserve to be voted off so soon. She has amazing potential." American Idol music director Rickey Minor was "absolutely shocked" at her departure.
After her elimination on Idol, Iraheta made guest appearances on Live with Regis and Kelly, The Ellen Degeneres Show, Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Larry King Live, local FOX television affiliates, and numerous radio stations nation-wide. She performed on the season eight finale of American Idol, including a group medley of Pink's "So What" with her fellow contestants and a duet of "Time After Time" with original artist Cyndi Lauper.

B is for badly
C is for can't you stay longer
Cause I want you so madly
E is for no escape
Cause I don't wanna leave you
F is for falling to
Fast with no parachute, oh
And who's gonna save me now
Now
You're taking me under
Stolen my thunder
And I think I'm all out of fight
I want you to win
All that I ever was
Is burning in this lust
You love is a weapon
And it's turning me to dust
D is for dangerous
D is for dangerous
G's for get outta here
It's really too much
H is for how do I leave
When I'm addicted, you're
I is for insane
It smells like danger
J is for jump off the ship
Oh the strong will take you
And who's gonna save me now
Don't
You're taking me under
Stolen my thunder
And I think I'm all out of fight
I want you to win
All that I ever was
Is burning in this lust
You love is a weapon
And it's turning me to dust
D is for dangerous
D is for dangerous
D is for dangerous
D is for dangerous
K is for killing me
L is for I can leave
Oh, 'cause I'll never make it
If I'm not living on the edge
M is for the rest
Let's just forget this
Cause I'll never walk out of this
You're taking me under
Stolen my thunder
And I think I'm all out of fight
I want you to win
All that I ever was
Is burning in this lust
You love is a weapon
And it's turning me to dust

The lyrics of Allison Iraheta's "D Is For Dangerous" confesses the singer's addiction to a relationship that is essentially harmful for her. The verses playfully use the letters of the alphabet to communicate different aspects of the singer's situation, including her strong attraction to the partner ("A is for all I want, B is for badly"), her fear of losing them ("E is for no escape") and the fast-paced dangerous nature of their connection ("F is for falling too fast with no parachute, oh"). The hook emphasizes the perilous situation she's willingly put herself into because of her infatuation with her significant other. She's going down ("You're taking me under, stolen my thunder") and has no strength to struggle anymore, but she recognizes the wreckage that's happening ("All that I ever was is burning in this lust").
The lyrics of the song present a relationship that is highly addictive, dangerous, and toxic. The use of the alphabet to express the various facets of the relationship makes it catchy and memorable. Moreover, the overall theme of the song is relatable to anyone who has ever been so attracted to someone that they lose sight of what's important for them. Ultimately, the song's message is about the consequences of becoming addicted to the wrong person and how it can destroy one's individuality and spine.
