Iraheta is a Salvadoran born in Glendale, California. According to her parents, she has been singing since she was a toddler. Before rising to prominence, she usually sang in local Latin supermarkets.
In 2006, Iraheta won the Telemundo reality show Quinceañera, where she sang in both English and Spanish. The prize was a reward of USD $50,000 and a recording contract, but only the reward money was ever granted.
In 2009, Allison Iraheta competed on American Idol. She achieved acclaim for her rock sound and unique style, making it into the finals. Allison remained on the show until being eliminated at the final four, finishing in 4th place. The mentor of that week, Slash, praised Iraheta, saying, "Allison didn't deserve to be voted off so soon. She has amazing potential." American Idol music director Rickey Minor was "absolutely shocked" at her departure.
After her elimination on Idol, Iraheta made guest appearances on Live with Regis and Kelly, The Ellen Degeneres Show, Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Larry King Live, local FOX television affiliates, and numerous radio stations nation-wide. She performed on the season eight finale of American Idol, including a group medley of Pink's "So What" with her fellow contestants and a duet of "Time After Time" with original artist Cyndi Lauper.

Still Breathing
Allison Iraheta Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Until you left I never knew what my heart was really going through
And I never wanna go back but if there's some sick twist of fate
I would rather rest in peace please do not resuscitate
I'm still breathing.
Don't you think I'm not
Because you're leaving?
I'm moving up and away.
Not crying
Funny I'm not even trying
Never gonna lay down
I'm breathing much better
The air is much clearer over you
Suffocating, and I didn't know why
Until I realized you were standing in the way of my air supply
Clear the air, was about to die
I wonder why I didn't leave you way before so I thought I was insane
But it was you who kept the oxygen from getting to my brain
I'm still breathing.
Don't you think I'm not
Because you're leaving?
Never gonna see me grieving
I'm moving up and away.
Not crying
Funny I'm not even trying
Never gonna lay down
I'm breathing much better
The air is much clearer over you
Over you! Over you!
Over your head.
Out of your view
Breathing so much better
Now that I'm away from you
I'm still breathing.
Don't you think I'm not
Because you're leaving?
Never gonna see me grieving
I'm moving up and away.
Not crying
Funny I'm not even trying
Never gonna lay down
I'm breathing much better
The air is much clearer over you
The song "Still Breathing" by Allison Iraheta is a powerful breakup anthem that emphasizes her ability to move on from an unhealthy relationship. The lyrics convey a sense of relief that she is finally free from a suffocating partner who was standing in the way of her happiness. She states that until her partner left, she didn't realize how much her heart was suffering.
The first verse features Iraheta admitting that she needs an aspirin after the departure of her previous partner. She then admits that before their departure, she was unaware of how much they were holding her back. The second verse talks about how suffocating the relationship was and how she was dying to clear the air. The pre-chorus highlights the fact that she is finally free and no longer dependent on her partner. She is moving up and moving away without any tears, and she's without trying either.
The chorus of the song is particularly powerful. Iraheta sings that she's still breathing and won't be beaten down by her former partner's departure. She won't be grieving either. She's moving away and towards a better future. The air is clearer and cleaner without her partner.
Overall, "Still Breathing" by Allison Iraheta is a wonderful song that embodies the willpower to get over a harmful relationship and move on to fresher and brighter prospects.
