They were married on June 30, 1975, only days after Cher's divorce from Sonny Bono was finalized. Their son Elijah Blue Allman (of the band Deadsy) was born on July 10, 1976.
The product of the two singers' unlikely and turbulent relationship and marriage, Allman and Woman attempted an even more unlikely musical melding of Allman's Southern rock with Cher's idiosyncratic, personality-driven pop. The uncharacteristically airblown cover notwithstanding, Allman's musical ideas and singing generally took the lead.
The album was not well-received; the 1979 Rolling Stone Record Guide said "It's hard to imagine a more inappropriate combination ... It's the bottom of the barrel after a long fall for Gregg, and more of the same for Cher," and rated the album "Worthless". Two the Hard Way was not a commercial success either; by the time the 1983 edition of the same guide had come out, the album was out of print. The album has never been released on CD or iTunes. According to Billboard, Cher owned this album's master right and Warner had no right to reissue.
To promote the release of the album Cher and Allman played a mini tour called the Two the Hard Way Tour. However, the tour led to the final breakup of the couple. While pre-tour publicity had emphasized that Gregg Allman was free from drug and alcohol problems, Cher discovered during the tour that Gregg Allman's drinking had returned, and once the tour was complete, she told him that their marriage finally was done for good.
They separated after two years of marriage and finalized their divorce in 1979.

Allman and Woman Lyrics

WITH GREG ALLMAN
I think we need an island
Cause we can't get along
In this place that we're on
And honey
When I wake in the morning
If I could see your face
[Chorus:]
And I've covered the whole world
Searching for a way to get to you
Will it be this way forever
Ooh, I feel the night is breathing
Closer than ever
And I can't believe we're no together
I need to get some answers
Cause I can't understand it
We both know it's wrong
And honey
I wanna die completely
We've dragging it out too long
Much too long
[Chorus]
And I've covered the whole world
Searching for a way to get to you
And I can't believe we're not together
I think we need an island
The song "Island" by Greg Allman and Woman is a soulful track that speaks to the frustration and longing experienced in a relationship that is struggling to survive. The lyrics suggest that the couple in question cannot seem to get along in the world they currently inhabit and that they are in desperate need of escape to a place where they can start fresh. The singer imagines an island where they could be free from the constraints of their current environment and could finally be happy together. The chorus reinforces the idea that the singer has been searching for a way to connect with his partner, but nothing seems to be working. He feels the night closing in, as if time is running out, and he cannot believe that they are still apart.
The lyrics suggest a deep emotional connection between the two lovers but also an underlying tension and frustration that is preventing them from being together. The singer feels that they are both aware that something is not right, and yet they are persisting in their current situation, dragging out their pain for too long. The imagery of needing to "die completely" suggests that the singer feels trapped and possibly even defeated by the situation, and that only by starting over on an island can he find the peace he desires.
Overall, "Island" is a powerful song about the difficulties of maintaining a relationship in the face of external pressures and internal conflicts. It is a reminder that sometimes, the best way to solve a problem is to change the environment in which it exists.
