They were married on June 30, 1975, only days after Cher's divorce from Sonny Bono was finalized. Their son Elijah Blue Allman (of the band Deadsy) was born on July 10, 1976.
The product of the two singers' unlikely and turbulent relationship and marriage, Allman and Woman attempted an even more unlikely musical melding of Allman's Southern rock with Cher's idiosyncratic, personality-driven pop. The uncharacteristically airblown cover notwithstanding, Allman's musical ideas and singing generally took the lead.
The album was not well-received; the 1979 Rolling Stone Record Guide said "It's hard to imagine a more inappropriate combination ... It's the bottom of the barrel after a long fall for Gregg, and more of the same for Cher," and rated the album "Worthless". Two the Hard Way was not a commercial success either; by the time the 1983 edition of the same guide had come out, the album was out of print. The album has never been released on CD or iTunes. According to Billboard, Cher owned this album's master right and Warner had no right to reissue.
To promote the release of the album Cher and Allman played a mini tour called the Two the Hard Way Tour. However, the tour led to the final breakup of the couple. While pre-tour publicity had emphasized that Gregg Allman was free from drug and alcohol problems, Cher discovered during the tour that Gregg Allman's drinking had returned, and once the tour was complete, she told him that their marriage finally was done for good.
They separated after two years of marriage and finalized their divorce in 1979.

DUET BY CHER AND GREG ALLMAN
WRITERS JERRY LEIBER, MIKE STOLLER
Treat me like a fool,
Treat me mean and cruel,
But love me.
Wring my faithful heart,
If you ever go, Darling, I'll be oh so lonely
I'll be sad and blue,
Crying over you, dear only.
I would beg and steal
Just to feel your heart beatin' close to mine
Well, if you ever go, Darling, I'll be oh so lonely
I'll be sad and blue, crying over you, dear only.
I would beg and steal
just to feel your heart beatin' close to mine
Well, if you ever go, Darling, I'll be oh so lonely
Beggin' on knees, all I ask is please, please love me
Oh yeah
The song “Love Me” by Cher and Greg Allman is a soulful ballad that speaks about the singer’s unconditional love towards their significant other. The lyrics describe a scenario where the singer is willing to endure any kind of pain if it means that their partner will continue loving them. They ask their partner to treat them like a fool, be cruel and even tear their heart apart, but at the end of the day, all they need is love. They express their fear of being left alone, stating that they would beg and steal just to feel their partner’s heart beating close to theirs. The song ends with the singer pleading with their lover to always love them as they are.
The song was written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, who were renowned songwriters of the 1950s and 1960s, responsible for hits such as “Hound Dog”, “Jailhouse Rock” and “Stand By Me”. “Love Me” was released in 1977 as part of the album “Two the Hard Way”, which was a collaboration between Cher and Greg Allman. Interestingly, the album was not well received by critics or fans, and Cher reportedly referred to it as ‘the worst album in history’.
