Okay to everyone who wants to start arguments over "whose song it is" it's Aloe Blacc, Avicii, and Mike Eizinger's collectively. Mike and Avicii came up with the chord progression and melody. And Aloe Blacc wrote all the lyrics. Avicii said in an interview with MTV "We came up with the chord progression and melody, but no real lyrics. None of us sing and we really needed to get that demo down and the only person I knew that lived in LA was Aloe, so I called him and he was free. Lyrics come really easy to him so he wrote them in a couple of hours and we finished the track."
They recorded an acoustic version that night, and Avicii made the dance mix most people are familiar with a few days later. So give them both their dues. It's not one or the others song, it's both their song. And the Mike guy too🤣 So stop arguing and enjoy the good music.

In an interview with the Daily Star, Avicii, who had previously labelled "Wake Me Up!" as "a fun experiment" during an exclusive chat with MTV UK,[10] said: "I had a demo with Mac Davis singing, the guy who wrote all the Elvis Presley stuff, but I needed another singer to do the parts. At the same time I was tipped off about doing another track with Aloe Blaccand I started working on that track. When I was with Mike Einziger from Incubus, we came up with the chord progression and the melody for 'Wake Me Up!' but no real lyrics. None of us sing and we really needed to get that demo down and the only person I knew that lived in LA was Aloe, so I called him and he was free. Lyrics come really easy to him so the two of us wrote them in a couple of hours and we finished the track."

Most people probably don't know who Aloe Blacc is; most people probably don't know that he also worked on this song with Avicii; most people who do know him or have even heard of him probably don't know what a great talent he is. That needs to change. Aloe is so underrated. He has such an amazing voice and soft, well-spoken, inspirational words, but gets hardly any recognition.
