Detailed biographies:
1) Also is an indie / alternative rock band from Los Angeles, CA, United States, founded in 2003 by vocalist/songwriter Drew Conrad, bassist Mark Zelen and drummer Scotland Stephenson. Despite being an unsigned and self-releasing band their latest 2011 release "Music Belongs in the Background" has charted on the CMJ Top 200, the premiere chart for alternative artists in the US and Canada. In August 2011 Emvy joined the ranks on keyboards, Mellotron and effects which expanded the line-up to a four-piece.
Their music is described by fans as "witty alternative rock" with a clear focus on lyrics of true-to-life subject matters "aimed towards rock fans that like to think and be challenged with themes that dig pretty deep." Their sound roots in British as well as American rock music culture. Bloggers, fans and critics alike compared them to bands such as The Smiths, Elbow, Jeff Buckley, The National or post-punk bands like Echo and the Bunnymen, The Church or Joy Division.
According to vocalist and lyricist Drew Conrad their bandname Also implies possibility and open-endedness, it was chosen to be a constant reminder that there are many ways to look at any given situation, where there is unavoidably darkness, but also light.
A short while after founding the band they self-recorded their stripped-down, lo-fi "Morning" EP at home in order to get some songs ready to be sent out to clubs and radio stations (it was self-released through download purchase at a later point of time).
In the following years they received airplay on Los Angeles alternative stations, KCRW 89.9 & The Indie 103.1. Their forthcoming debut EP "send them off smiling..." charted in the Top 30 at over 25 stations nationally in the US. Given attention to their music while sitting at a coffee-house, best-selling thriller author John Skipp shot an independent low-budget video for the featured single "The Disappearing Heart!" and described their music "as good as f***ing songcraft can get". In 2006 they recorded their debut album "It Was Fine To Be Kind" including 12 tracks. The cover artwork was contributed by NYC-based illustrator Kim Rosen.
There is a broad array of influences found in their music, perceptible by the audible crossover between genres, ranging from acoustic/singer-songwriter, chamber twee-pop, jangle pop, cathartic college up to ethereal ambient rock, which gives their music a certain appeal of post-punk. Additionally to the listing medley, this could make it harder for people on last.fm to not confuse them with the gothic band from Germany who are no longer active.
By the end of February 2011 they self-released their sophomore full-length album "Music Belongs in the Background". The album's songs are dark and ethereal at times and wall-of-sound rock and roll at others.
Tracks from the new album have been picked once again by various alternative/indie music and college radio stations. By the end of March self-released "Music Belongs in the Background" charted the CMJ Top 200. Nevertheless ALSO are still unsigned.
Worthy of mention furthermore are their self-funded, independently booked and organized
tours to the UK and continental Europe which first happened in 2005, and were then repeated three times.

2) Also was a gothic rock / post-punk band from Germany. According to Goth specialist Mick Mercer, they are "one of Germany's best kept secrets" (Hex files - The Goth Bible). Also's "existenzialistische popmusik" was performed by Olive Gnass (bass player and the rich, partly programmed percussion), Tine Warmhold (guitars) and Alexander Dusts (vocals).
Also self-released their music on MC and CDR.

Silent by fear.
Windows are broken,
Grey [...] mirror.
This was the green park,
We met inside.
No birds are singing,
When I will go there,
Oh, go there with you,
You said you were laughing,
But you
[Won't? Went?] much too fast...
Cracks in the concrete,
Raindrops of black,
Waves on the dead trees.
Time won't come back.
This was the meadow
[...] we sat.
No flowers blooming,
The clouds are red.
When I will go there,
Oh, go there with you,
You said you were laughing,
But you
[Won't? Went?] much too fast...
Why did it have to be?
Why did you go to past?
Why did it end this way?
Why did I?..
The lyrics to "Dead End" by Also depict a scene of desolation and despair. The singer is walking through dark streets, paralyzed by fear and surrounded by broken windows that reflect a grey and lifeless world. The opening lines suggest that the singer is already in a dead end, both literally and metaphorically, as they are trapped in a space that offers no way out. The image of the broken windows could be interpreted as a metaphor for the shattered dreams and hopes of the singer.
The second verse refers to a park, which was once a place of joy and love for the singer and their companion. But now, there is nothing left of the past happiness, as the park is empty and silent, devoid of any sign of life. The mention of the Sun being white could represent a lack of warmth or hope. The chorus serves as a reminder that the singer's companion is now gone, and despite promises of laughter and joy, they left too soon, leaving the singer to face their pain alone.
The third verse continues to paint a bleak picture, with the setting shifting to a meadow that once held memories of better times. The raindrops of black and the waves on dead trees signify a world receding further into darkness and despair. The clouds being red could symbolize the anger, pain, and distress felt by the singer. The chorus is repeated, with an added layer of emotional weight. The singer is struggling with the unanswered questions that remain irrevocably tied to their hurt and the tragedy that has occurred.
