Breezeblocks
Alt-J (∆) Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks
Citrezene your fever’s gripped me again
Never kisses all you ever send are fullstops, la la la la
Do you know where the wilds things go
They go along to take your honey,la la la la
Break down now weep build up breakfast now Let’s eat my love my love love love, la la la la
Muscle to muscle and toe to toe
The fear has gripped me but here I go
My heart sinks as I jump up
Your hand grips hand as my eyes shut
Ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah, ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah
Do you know where the wild things go
They go along to take your honey, la la la la
Break down let’s sleep build up breakfast now
Let’s eat my love my love love love, la la la la
She bruises coughs she splutters pistol shots
But hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks
She’s morphine queen of my vaccine my love my love love love, la la la la
Muscle to muscle and toe to toe
The fear has gripped me but here I go
My heart sinks as I jump up
Your hand grips hand as my eyes shut
And ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah, ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah
Ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah, ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah
She may contain the urge to runaway
But hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks
But please don’t go I love you so my lovely
Please don’t go, please don’t go, I love you so, I love you so
Please don’t go, please don’t go, I love you so, I love you so
Please break my heart, hey
Please don’t go, please don’t go, I love you so, I love you so
Please don’t go, please don’t go, I love you so, I love you so
Please break my heart, ah ha
Please don’t go, I’ll eat you whole
I love you so, I love you, so I love you so
Please don’t go I’ll eat you whole
I love you so, I love you so, I love you so, I love you so
The lyrics of Alt-J (∆)'s song 'Breezeblocks' describe a somewhat abusive relationship where the singer ("she") has the urge to run away but is held down by the singer with "soggy clothes and breezeblocks." There is a sense of fear and urgency in the lyrics, as the singer describes the grip of "fever" and the fear that "sinks" their heart before jumping. The chorus asks if the listener knows "where the wild things go" and references taking honey, which could be a metaphor for desire or lust. The fears and desires of both the singer and the subject of the song seem to be intertwined and in conflict, resulting in a complicated and difficult relationship.
The lyrics of 'Breezeblocks' could be interpreted in a few different ways. It is possible that the singer is in an abusive relationship where they are the abuser or that they are in a toxic co-dependent relationship. Alternatively, the lyrics could be interpreted as an allegory for the fear and desire that people experience when starting a new relationship or when facing their own fears.

Running through comments I would say that to better understand the story of the video you may need to watch it reversed.
Some people even after the end of the video thought the man was the abductor/agitator for various reasons such as his casual attitude and knowing exactly where the woman was tied up; however, if you watch it chronologically you see he walked in casual, tossed his keys on the counter, went to hang up his coat, hears something, drops his coat in a panic as he pulls back the counter to find his wife.
The proof that it is his wife is that she is wearing a ring, he is wearing a ring, and the other woman is not (they make a point to show everyone's ring finger).
While i would like to defend the guy, they did make a point to show everyone's ring finger. From a filmmaking/storytelling perspective this indicates to me that this was indeed a jilted lover out to make the married man suffer.
Pure Theory: (referring to the cast as Husband/Wife/Other Woman.
The other woman came to the house for the Husband. Meets the wife and in a jealous fit ties her up, planning to drown the wife in the tub as a suicide. this would leave the man heart broken, and all hers. As the bath is filling the other woman hears the door, and the husband tossing his keys. The other woman grabs a knife, and when she sees the Husband comforting the Wife, the Other Woman goes into a rage. A fight ensues ending when the man finally knocks the other woman out, and into the tub. He sets the breeze block he used on her chest. He weeps knowing this is all his fault as The other woman drowns.
The irony is two fold. The Husband likely broke it off with her to save his marriage, and this will ultimately end his marriage. Meanwhile, the other woman was killed in the same manner in which she had planned to murder the wife.

While watching the video I had multiple impressions:
1) His wife committed suicide
2) He murdered his wife
3) She instigated the murder by being abusive with knives and bottles
4) Oh who that? Husband was cheating?
5) Oh was that duck tape? Husband was keeping a hostage or found a hostage under the table
6) WTF he enters the apartment chill af...maybe he's obsessed with this girl with duck tape?
7) yes maybe? Trying to assess the situation based of emotion, actions and reactions
8) Fooking lost...
