Outside
Alton Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well I'm not a writer
I can't seem to keep my head straight
But I love the sound
Ringing through my ears
Ringing through my ears
And I don't care
If you leave tonight, leave tonight, leave tonight
And I don't care
I'm on the outside, outside, outside
I try to write some songs
I try to write some songs
I try to write some songs
I try to write some songs
I try to write some songs
I can't get them right
Is it worth the time
Is it worth the time
And I don't care
If you leave tonight, leave tonight, leave tonight

And I don't care
I'm on the outside, outside, outside

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Alton's song "Outside" seem to be a reflection of the songwriter's struggles with creativity and trying to find his place in the world. The opening lines establish that he is not a writer and has trouble keeping his thoughts straight. However, he loves the sound of music and how it makes him feel. The repetition of "ringing through my ears" emphasizes the importance of music in his life and how it provides an escape for him.

The next few lines describe his efforts to write songs but feeling like he can't get them right. He questions whether it's worth the time and effort to keep trying. The chorus is where the title of the song becomes significant as he declares that he doesn't care if someone leaves him and that he is on the outside. This line could be interpreted in different ways, such as feeling excluded from society or not fitting in with a particular group.

Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of frustration and uncertainty about one's talents and identity, but also a sense of accepting oneself and not caring about external validation.

I used to work in this quarry when it was active. That that tire dropped about 330 ft.

@K-Brew

Cool to hear from someone who used to work here, thanks for the comment!

Right on man. That place was sketchy as sh!t even then. Too bad you weren't able to locate the old capsule that old man w...y used to climb into at the blast surface. I'd imagine it's still there. They would sound this eerie old siren, and the only] communication from bottom to top was a specific hand signal. Time stopped and the atmosphere was hella creepy! Then he would climb in that old steel capsule and boom! It rocked the entire city. They would send a couple guys to various preset locations around Alton to collect siezemic readings directly after the charge.

@@DJ.A-Town618when was it last active ? I just visited it today

@autumnrestoff7637

pretty cool to see someone’s comment that used to work there…

@DJ.A-Town618

@@SynonymRoII I worked there in 09'. It hasn't been active since around 2015 I believe. It was set to move the operation across alby st. to a still undeveloped property but id assume the city put the brakes on that.

The Stratford Hotel in downtown Alton would be awesome to see. They were supposedly going to start renovations on it but nothing has ever been formally announced.
