ALVARO, mostró desde niño su afición por la música. A los diez años, formaron con su hermano Plubio y sus primos Ranferí y Orlando su primer banda infantil llamada "Las medallas del siglo 10" e interpretaron temas propios con los cuales ponían a prueba la paciencia de los familiares cercanos. Al poco tiempo, los primos se fueron de Guatemala y ALVARO y Plubio siguieron su aprendizaje empírico de la guitarra. Durante sus años en el Colegio Alemán, ALVARO se distinguió por su facilidad para cantar e interpretar la guitarra y fue allí en donde se formó su primera banda llamada "Rainbow".
Sus influencias musicales fueron grupos de los setenta tales como Deep Purple, Yes, América, Elton John y Chicago. Los ochentas encontrarían a Alvaro Aguilar dirigiendo el nacimiento de ALUX NAHUAL y proponiendo un formato hasta entonces desconocido en el área, llamado "Rock en Español" El tiempo les dio la razón y después de 20 años de carrera, 9 discos (dos de oro y uno de platino) y haberse presentado en México y en la mayoría de las ciudades importantes de Estados Unidos, Alux Nahual presentó su despedida en el Gran Teatro del Centro Cultural Miguel Angel Asturias con un impresionante espectáculo de dos horas y media acompañados de una orquesta de cuerdas y con un público delirante que abarrotó la sala.
Como era de esperarse, ALVARO AGUILAR sigue su carrera musical y ya lanzó al mercado su primer trabajo solista titulado "Tren de Luz" con cuyo primer sencillo "No me digas" logró llegar a #1 en Guatemala, Nicaragua y El Salvador. Sus primeras presentaciones como solista iniciaron en Antigua Guatemala y en La Bodeguita del Centro haciéndose acompañar de una excelente banda y reportando ambas, llenos completos.
