Born Graham Barnes in Nottingham England, Alvin Lee took up guitar at the age of thirteen. By the age of fifteen he had formed the group Jaybirds. Following in the footsteps of earlier beat groups such as the Beatles, the Jaybirds played the clubs in Hamburg, Germany to great local acclaim. On returning to London in 1966, the group changed its name to Ten Years After.
Ten Years After scored hits with many albums and became a popular touring band. The band gained note in America after their appearance at Woodstock in 1969.
Lee's guitar work on ‘I’m Going Home’ on the 'Woodstock' album and film remains a standard for many rock guitarists to emulate.
Ten Years After played a mix of rock and blues tinged with jazz. In 1973, Lee left Ten Years After to pursue a solo career.
His first work was a collaborative effort with American gospel singer Mylon LeFevre on an album entitled On The Road To Freedom; other artists on the album included George Harrison, Mick Fleetwood and Steve Winwood. A year later he formed the band Alvin Lee & Company and released a double live album recorded at the Rainbow in London, In Flight.
Lee continued to record albums and play live until his death in 2013, thrilling audiences with his guitar virtuoso and nimble fingered fret work.

The Price of This Love
Alvin Lee Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Like a bullet from a gun
I fell for all the lies you told me
Now my troubles have begun
It's like a hurricane hannah
The way you blew me away
Now I'm finding out the price Tag
When your feelings run away
What is the price of this love
What is the price of this love
What are you thinking of
Baby Baby Baby Baby, what is the price of this love
Well I was caught in the crossfire
Like a bullet from a gun
I fell for all the lies you told me
Now my troubles have begun
What is the price of this love
What is the price of this love
What are you thinking of
Baby Baby Baby Baby, what is the price of this love
The Price of This Love by Alvin Lee is a song that talks about the feeling of being deceived and disappointed by love. The lyrics suggest that the singer fell for someone who turned out to be dishonest and his feelings were blown away like a hurricane. The emotions he had for the person are now causing him troubles, and he questions the price of this love. The lines "What is the price of this love, What are you thinking of" indicate the confusion and frustration that come with the realization that the love they thought they had was never genuine. The repetition of the lyrics indicates the pain the singer is feeling, trying to understand what went wrong and the cost he has to pay for it.
The crossfire mentioned in the lyrics symbolizes the emotional war between the singer and his unfaithful lover. He may have been caught up in the passion of love, and now is left feeling the shock and the pain, just like a bullet from a gun. The hurricane that is mentioned suggests the intensity of the emotions that he may have felt before being devastated. The song suggests that the singer may still be trying to understand his feelings as he asks, "What is the price of this love." It is a song of heartbreak and disillusionment, where the singer tries to make sense of the betrayal that he has faced.
