But don’t be fooled, there’s much more to this amazing artist than catchy songs and crystal clear vocals. Alvin is a man on a mission. His mission is to help transform the lives of people who have been bound by self doubt and religious tradition— setting them free with the acceptance of God's love and the power of a personal relationship with God.
Alvin is the epitome of the phrase "success is a journey not a destination." He spent years living life as a defeated Christian. The effects of bankruptcy, foreclosure, welfare, low self esteem, and a troubled marriage ruled his life until 1990, when he discovered a whole other world outside the four corners of his own mind.
In 1991, Alvin began receiving invitations to sing at national evangelistic crusades and major Christian conferences. Today, as a recording artist, entrepreneur, inspirational speaker and philanthropist, he is a regular on Christian television and travels all over the world in concert ministry. Healing hearts through his compassionate speaking, restoring joy with his songs of faith and exhorting Christians to live passionately for God.
Eight solo albums later, his latest being the Billboard charting “The Faith Life”, Alvin has made a name for himself in the genre of praise and worship. Accolades have followed including Dove Award nominations for Praise & Worship Album of the Year, Contemporary Black Gospel Album of the Year and Contemporary Black Gospel Song of the Year as well as a Stellar Award nomination for Best Male Solo Performance. He’s nurtured a career that’s seen him speak and sing globally in South America, Asia, Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and throughout the United States racking up millions of miles on the road.
Alvin toured as a special guest soloist with Benny Hinn Ministries during a 10 -year period and has appeared on the Trinity Broadcast Network more times than he can count. Because of Alvin's leadership and experience, he will be receiving an honorary doctorate from Canada Christian College in Toronto this December 2006. Although proud of the doors that God has opened for him, his mission now more than ever before is to also help open the door for others to find their own voice, reach their unique potential, and have a personal relationship with God, through music, speaking, writing, networking and developing social empowerment programs.
This passion has inspired the writing of Alvin's first book, entitled I Got It Back!— an inspiring work that gives six keys to living and growing in the faith life. "This is a new day. Too many people still live their lives just "holding on, living in the past or walking in fear. The fact is that there are way too many who say that they're waiting on God, when in fact they are really just waiting on other people, seeking other's approval or waiting for a stroke of good luck to give them the power, that if they only knew—they already possess; but have sadly given away. Just "holding on" for most people is an exercise in futility. If your life is stuck in neutral, you need to forget about "just holding on" and start "pulling up" from out of the pit you're in,"says Alvin.
Alvin's goal of spiritual empowerment has moved far beyond the boundaries of the United States and is also specifically embracing the overwhelming problems faced in the nations of Africa.
“My focus has expanded from just music to blending the ministry of music, inspirational speaking and writing — empowering people to not just live passively, sort of looking at their lives as something that they cannot control, but to live passionately, finding the courage and power within to live their lives on God's terms for them and not someone else's,” says Alvin.
He delivers a passionate, enthusiastic and entertaining message to both teach and encourage you to celebrate your individuality and breakthrough to become your ‘greater self.’ His inspiring message is based upon lessons learned in his own breakthrough journeys. Alvin is committed to helping others across the world apply these principles in their individual lives and relationships. In his unique, uncompromising style, he brings life changing principles and leadership skills that have inspired and motivated thousands across age, gender, and denominational lines.

I Will Run To You
Alvin Slaughter Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
No one else will do
Lord, in trouble times
I will run straight to You
Though my heart and flesh may fail
You're my very present help
A tower of strength
My portion evermore
Lord, I run to You
No one else will do
Lord, You said we'd face
Trouble, pain, and fears
But to be of good cheer
Be of good cheer
For You have overcome
Overcome the world
I lift mine eyes up
To the mountains
Where does my help come from?
It comes from You, Lord
You are the maker
Of earth and heaven
And there is nothing that is too hard for You
Alvin Slaughter's song, Lord I Run to You, is a tribute to the power of faith and the strength it provides during times of trouble. The lyrics express a deep devotion to God, and a willingness to rely on His strength when the individual's own strength fails. The singer declares that there is no one else that they can turn to, only God. The phrase "Lord, in trouble times, I will run straight to You" is repeated throughout the song as a reminder that faith is a refuge during our darkest times.
The lyrics also reference the idea that trouble, pain, and fears are an inevitable part of life, but God provides a way to not only endure them but to overcome them. The singer encourages the listener to be of good cheer, because God has already overcome the world. He is a tower of strength and our portion evermore. In the final verse, the singer acknowledges that God is the maker of heaven and earth, and that there is nothing too hard for Him. This is a testament to God's power and omnipotence, and a reaffirmation of the singer's faith.
The song is an inspiring message of hope and an ode to the power of faith. It speaks to the human experience of struggling and the need for something to hold onto during difficult times. The lyrics convey a deep sense of trust in God and the knowledge that He will provide comfort and strength to those who seek Him.

Came back in 2021 (Sept) just to hear this part again:
'I love you, God — you make me strong.
God is bedrock under my feet, the castle in which I live, my rescuing knight.
My God—the high crag where I run for dear life, hiding behind the boulders, safe in the granite hideout
I sing to God , the Praise-Lofty, and find myself safe and saved.
The hangman’s noose was tight at my throat;
devil waters rushed over me. Hell’s ropes cinched me tight; death traps barred every exit.
A hostile world! I call to God , I cry to God to help me.
From his palace he hears my call; my cry brings me right into his presence— a private audience!
But me he caught—reached all the way from sky to sea;
he pulled me out Of that ocean of hate, that enemy chaos, the void in which I was drowning.
They hit me when I was down, but God stuck by me.
He stood me up on a wide-open field; I stood there saved—surprised to be loved!
God made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before him.
When I got my act together, he gave me a fresh start.
Now I’m alert to God ’s ways; I don’t take God for granted.
Every day I review the ways he works;
I try not to miss a trick.
I feel put back together, and I’m watching my step.
God rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes.
God made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before him.
When I got my act together, he gave me a fresh start.
Suddenly, God , you floodlight my life;
I’m blazing with glory, God’s glory!
I smash the bands of marauders,
I vault the highest fences.
What a God! His road stretches straight and smooth.
Every God -direction is road-tested.
Everyone who runs toward him Makes it.'

Your eye is on the sparrow
And Your hand, it comforts me
From the ends of the earth
To the depths of my heart
Let Your mercy and strength be seen
You call me to Your purpose
As angels understand
For Your glory may you draw all men
As Your love and grace demands
And I will run to You
To Your words of truth
Not by might, not by power
But by the Spirit of God
Yes, I will run the race
Till I see Your face
Oh, let me live in the glory of Your grace

I WILL RUN TO YOU
Your eye is on the sparrow
And Your hand, it comforts me
From the ends of the earth
To the depths of my heart
Let Your mercy and strength be seen
You call me to Your purpose
As angels understand
For Your glory may you draw all men
As Your love and grace demands
And I will run to You
To Your words of truth
Not by might, not by power
But by the Spirit of God
Yes, I will run the race
