Moving to Mansfield, Nottinghamshire at a young age, he made his stage debut in pantomime at the age of four. In the early 1960s he became known as Shane Fenton, and with his backing group, The Fentones, had a handful of hits in the UK singles chart. His band based their sound on that of The Shadows. He also appeared in Billy Fury's movie, Play It Cool.
During the early 1970s, he became Alvin Stardust, as he tried to cash in on the Glam Rock bandwagon. His biggest hit was "My Coo-Ca-Choo" in 1973; and he had four other chart successes with the hits - "Jealous Mind", "You, You, You", "Red Dress" and "Good Love". In total, he amassed seven Top Ten entries, in a chart span lasting almost 25 years.
Alvin Stardust was part of the Green Cross Code road safety campaign with his famous tagline of "You must be out of your tiny minds" directing children to look both ways before they cross the road.
In 1985, Stardust participated in A Song for Europe, the UK qualifying heat of the Eurovision Song Contest, with the song The Clock on the Wall. He finished in third place behind Vikki and Kerri Wells.
Moving into musical theatre, Stardust starred in the UK tour of Godspell and played Uriah Heep in David Copperfield - The Musical and Sir Billy Butlin in The Butlin Story at the London Palladium.
In 2005 Stardust starred as the Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, also at the London Palladium.
Stardust has numerous television appearances to his credit, and continued to tour as a performer and vocalist
Died October 23 2014 after a short illness, aged 72.

Alvin Stardust Lyrics

And let's get together tonight
I got some money in my jeans
And I'm really gonna spend it right
Been a-doin' my homework all week long
now the house is empty the folks are gone
C'mon everybody
Well my baby's number one
And the house'll be shakin'
From my bare feet slapping the floor
When you hear that music you can't sit still
If your brother won't rock then your sister will
C'mon everybody
Well we'll really have a party but we gotta put a guard outside
If the folks come home I'm afraid they gonna have my hide
There'll be no more movies for a week or two
No more runnin' 'round with the usual crew
Who cares C'mon everybody
Alvin Stardust's "C'mon Everybody" invites listeners to join him for a night of fun and dancing. He's got some extra cash in his pocket and he's ready to spend it. This is after he's spent the entire week doing his homework and finally has an empty house. He wants everybody to come together and enjoy themselves. Even though his baby is number one, he wants to dance with three or four other people. He wants their dancing to be so energetic that the house will shake from their bare feet slapping the floor. He insists that if you hear the music, you can't sit still; if your sibling won't dance, then your sister will.
The singer admits that if his parents come home, he will be in trouble. Therefore, he needs to post a guard outside to make sure nobody interrupts their party. For a week or two, there will be no movies or hanging out with their usual crew, but that doesn't matter because he's having fun with the people he's dancing with. Overall, the song is an invitation to enjoy life and forget about the problems you may have.

I was a sound engineer in the late 90โs. Was doing a festival one weekend with Lots of rock and roll acts and Alvin was on the line up. During the soundcheck, he realised heโd forgotten his acoustic guitar. It just so happened Iโd brought mine to play back in the accommodation and offered it to him. He did and he was very grateful. I even asked him to sign it, so I am the proud owner of a Takamine acoustic guitar with the words โthanks Timโ signed by the man and he used it for his show. Bit random, but I thought I might as well! He was a very nice chap. Very friendly. RIP Sir.

Everyone said that about Bernard. Had an ability to sing in the sound of so many people really. Its probable that the first two Alvin Stardust Records were actually recorded by Pete Shelley under the Alvin Stardust Name, but Bernard Jewry was hired for the live performances as Pete did not want to tour or appear on shows, certainly from the third disc it was all Bernard, and he created the Alvin Stardust Image - to put such as distance from his days as Shane Fentone (whom he had taken over the role of when the original Shane Fentone had died).
