The voices of the group were all performed by Bagdasarian, who sped up the playback to create the higher pitched, squeaky voices. This process was not entirely new; Bagdasarian had also used it for a previous novelty song project, "The Witch Doctor", but it was so unusual and well executed it earned the "trio" two Grammy Awards for engineering. Although the characters were fictional, they did release a long line of "real" albums and singles, with "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)" becoming a number-one hit single in the United States. After his death in 1972, the voices of the Chipmunks were subsequently recorded by his son, Ross Bagdasarian, Jr., and his wife, Janice Karman, in all subsequent incarnations to date.

I will admit that this is a good song, but it’s also sad when you think about it. They’re three kids on the road going to five towns every week, and partying every day. That’s about 1,825 towns in a year. Not to mention they have three gigs from Canada to Mexico. They also use the “get you goin’, keep you rockn’

Repetition to show how much they’re actually doing this. Like how in certain songs about insanity they use repetition as a sign of how “insane” the singer really is. If you notice they repeat that phrase a lot in just one song. There’s also the fact that they barley slept in the movie. I’m not trying to bash on the song, I’m just realizing the meaning behind the lyrics (kids partying themselves to exhaustion), and I figured I’d share it. I hope I didn’t ruin the song for anyone. That’s the point of the first movie as well. It was to show how the music/film industry over-works kids and manipulates them into doing so. Managers and people of authority use these kids as cash cows and ab*se them. I didn’t realize that was the meaning of the movie until I rewatched it when I was older. Kinda sad huh :(
