The experience convinced her that she wanted to be in a band and that she wanted the band to control its own destiny. For the past couple of years she has worked and performed with her long-term collaborator and partner in 'Amanda Ghost', Ian Dench, himself a songwriter with an international reputation as writer of the punk standard 'Unbelievable', a worldwide hit for EMF, of which Ian was the guitarist and founder member. Amanda has enjoyed huge success in 2005/6 as co-writer of James Blunt’s worldwide hit “You’re Beautiful” and tracks on his “Back To Bedlam” album and this has raised her profile ahead of the band’s release of its first album, scheduled for Autumn 2006 on their own label, Plan A Records.
“It's no surprise that she is the machination of popular genius behind James Blunt; Amanda is a commanding singer and a very talented song writer” - Antony (and The Johnsons), March 2006
The album release will be preceded by 2 EPs, the first of which is a limited edition 4 tracker entitled 'Blood On The Line', produced by Dave McCracken (Depeche Mode/Ian Brown) and featuring live performance band members Richie Stevens (drums/percussion) and Hide (bass). Amanda-Ghost.com
Glory Girl
Amanda Ghost Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We were the innocent in springtime
I never liked you much we never keep in touch
I know your stories from the grapevine
And though I found it strange
To watch the change
When what you couldn't say was
My glory, glory girl, help me to find a way to know you
Let's show the world
My glory girl, hide not behind the words that bind you
You don't owe the world
My glory girl, let's show the world
I heard you say today, you've thrown your life away
But dreams of happiness aren't wasted
You tried to reach the moon, you grew up too soon
Denied the freedom that you tasted
But all the tragedy now helps me discover you
My glory, glory girl, help me to find a way to know you
Let's show the world
My glory girl, hide not behind the words that bind you
You don't owe the world
My glory girl, let's show the world
My glory girl, let's show the world
My glory, glory girl, help me to find a way to know you
Let's show the world
My glory girl, hide not behind the words that bind you
You don't owe the world
My glory girl, let's show the world
Let's show the world
My glory girl, let's show the world
The song "Glory Girl" by Amanda Ghost reflects on past relationships and the nostalgia of childhood innocence. The lyrics describe the singer stumbling upon a song that reminds her of a past lover from their youthful days. The singer reminisces about their time together, remembering how they were young and carefree, innocently enjoying the beautiful springtime in Spain. Despite recalling her ambivalent feelings towards this person, she still marvels at how she watched them change and eventually blossom into a confident, self-assured individual.
The song's central message is an appeal to the "glory girl" to free herself from the words and expectations that have restrained her. The singer encourages this person to show the world their true self and not be held back by society's arbitrary standards or expectations. The song speaks to the universal experience of growing up and navigating the difficulties of breaking free from society's constraints, especially for those whose paths have been clouded by tragedy, disappointment, and rejection.
