Your expert double exes
It's just like you
To paint those whiter fences
It's so polite, it's so polite
It's offensive, it's offensive
It's so unright, it's so unright
But who needs love when there's Law And Order?
And who needs love when there's Southern Comfort?
And who needs love at all?
We stalk you
Your expert, double exes
We oxidized you in your sleep
There's no exit, there's no exit
You're on a roll, you're on a roll
No one gets it, no one gets it
Your honor, no, your honor
Can't you protect us? Protect us
But who needs love when there's Law And Order?
And who needs love when there's Southern Comfort?
And who needs love when the sandwiches are wicked
And they know you at the Mac Store?
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, I'm so excited
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, the blacks and beat kids
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, I'm getting frightened
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Someday, someday Leeds United
La ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba
Ba, da da, da, da
Da da, da, da, da, da, da, da
Da, da da, da
Bugsy Malone came to carry you home
And they're taking you all to the doctor
Verbally vices, all sugary and spices
It's nice but it's not what I'm after
Sure, I admire you, sure, you inspire me
But you've been not getting back so
I'll wait at the Sainsbury's, counting my change
Making bank on the upcoming roster
And we'll stop you
Your expert double exes
Oh yeah, big stack hold of extra care
Two exes, oh, oh, oh
That never talking thing you do
Is effective, it's effective
And your shoulder's icy cold
Oh, than a death wish, than a death wish
But who needs love when there's Law And Order?
And who needs love when there's Dukes Of Hazzard?
And who needs love when the sandwiches are wicked
And they know you at the Mac Store?
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I'm so excited
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
The blacks and beat kids
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I'm so excited
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
When I think about Leeds United
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Ouch, I'm getting frightened
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
The blacks, the blacks, the blacks and beat kids
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
It's so exciting
Someday, someday, someday, someday
Someday, someday Leeds United
The song "Leeds United" by Amanda Palmer is a commentary on the state of society, specifically focusing on the obsession with material possessions, the prioritization of law and order over love, and the idea of being watched and stalked in a surveillance culture.
The first verse describes the subject being watched and judged by others, who are admiring their seamless and perfect appearance. The chorus ironically suggests that love is unnecessary when Law and Order or Southern Comfort are there, highlighting the idea that people use these things to avoid vulnerability and the need for emotional connections. The second verse reveals that the subject is aware of being watched but has no escape, even in sleep, as they are "oxidized," meaning being watched even as they rust away.
The bridge of the song expresses excitement and fear regarding the idea of Leeds United, possibly referencing the football club, but more likely highlighting the fear and excitement of being watched and judged by others. The use of the term "blacks and beat kids" adds an element of social commentary, potentially pointing out racial and socio-economic divides.
Overall, the song suggests that our society, especially in Western cultures, values superficial and easily accessible material objects, law and order over love, and surveillance over privacy and connection.

I love her voice in this recording. Extra raspy and worn, which adds a layer of rock'n'roll to everything. I use this song to recharge. No matter how bad I feel, this brings a smile and an energy kick. My personal jumper cables.

I love how her voice is so unpolished and raw; it just makes her music more interesting and fantastic.

When I was 14 I was rolling a joint and this came on through my headphones so I just made it like my rolling a joint son for a while. Had been years since I heard it. She's awesome.
The last time I bought an original album was this one I believe. I've been too broke ever since and live in a country where music that isn't that commercial isn't found in stores.
