Amanda grew up on her family farm but her father was a saxophonist and pianist. She started singing in her church choir when she was just three years old and first gained prominence as a country singer at the 1994 Dauphin CountryFest. In 1999, she was signed to Warner Music Canada and her first self-titled CD was released in 2000. This album prompted single "Black is Black" which quickly became a hit on country radio and television. She gained fame in the United States when Country Music Television started to air some of her videos. She also won a Juno Award for Best New Solo Artist.
After a few years away from the spotlight, Amanda came back in 2004 not only as a beautiful young woman now in her 20s, but with a new, more adult pop sound. Her single, Paper Rain, from Women and Songs, Vol. 8 reached #1 on the Canadian Top 40 chart. On March 8, 2005, her sophomore CD, Chasing the Sky, was released. It included "Paper Rain" and follow up singles "Homeless Heart" and "She'll Get Over It". On this disc, Amanda took more charge of what she sings, having co-written over half of the songs.
Amanda performed on July 1, 2005 as part of the Canada Day celebrations, taking place on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. In the summer of 2005 she toured Canada with fellow female Canadian singers Keshia Chante, Christine Evans and Cassie Steele. In December 2005 she was a part of the Holiday Train cross-Canada tour along with Wayne Ronstad and the Moffats.
Amanda is now a featured singer in the traveling Cirque du soleil arena show called Delirium, touring Canada and the United States.
Getting There
Amanda Stott Lyrics

I feel it deep down
Soon I'll be sitting pretty
I'm gonna break new ground
The road ahead don't scare me
Cause the future's mine to hold
So why change me
Yeah to walk in my shoes
Step by step I'm getting there (getting there)
Hey, you don't know what it's like
In a world so brand new
For a girl that's getting there it's so unclear
But I swear I'm getting there, getting there
So I make a left turn
When everyone goes right
Yeah I dress kinda funny
And stay up all night
But I know I'll find the way
'Cause I got a heart of gold
So don't blame me
'Cause you don't know what it's like
Yeah to walk in my shoes
Step by step I'm getting there (getting there)
Hey, you don't know what it's like
In a world so brand new
For a girl that's getting there it's so unclear
But I swear I'm getting there, getting there
I'll make my own mistakes and sweet success
I'm not here to recreate your yesterday's best
One by one when it's done half the fun is getting there
So why change me
'Cause you don't know what it's like
Yeah to walk in my shoes
Step by step I'm getting there (getting there)
Hey, you don't know what it's like
In a world so brand new
For a girl that's getting there it's so unclear
But I swear I'm getting there, getting there
The lyrics of Amanda Stott's "Getting There" song talk about a girl who is aspiring to make a breakthrough in her life, despite the uncertainties and daunting challenges that lie ahead. The city's vibrant atmosphere instills in her hope and love, and she is determined to break new ground and embrace the future, holding it dear. The singer is confident that she will make it despite the unfamiliar turf, as she has a heart of gold and the will to forge ahead, one step at a time. She is determined to follow her unique path, make her own mistakes, and enjoy the journey to success.
The chorus of the song highlights the struggle of the singer and the lack of understanding from those around her. The girl feels misunderstood and unheard, and no one seems to comprehend what it's like to be in her shoes, navigating through a brand new world. Despite the uncertainties and confusion, she remains steadfast in her determination to succeed and prove her skeptics wrong. She ends by stating that half the fun of the journey is the process of getting there, and she embraces the challenge with enthusiasm.
Overall, "Getting There" is an empowering song that encourages listeners to stay true to themselves, embrace their unique qualities, and trust in their abilities to succeed. It speaks to the human will to push through challenges, embrace the unknown, and forge ahead to breakthroughs.
