She began writing music as a way to work through the 2013 death of her mother and in 2016, while in her early twenties, released her first songs: "Space," "Monsoon" (featuring her mother's voice), and "Way Back." The debut, supported by DJ Zane Lowe, left the biggest impact. The following year, after she signed with the Universal-distributed PMR Records -- home to similarly hard-to-pigeonhole singer/songwriters Jamie Woon and Jessie Ware -- Mark released 3:33am, an EP that featured the three previous singles and four new songs. She really has a talent for constructing songs with really strong, defined verses, pre-choruses and choruses, and you can tell she puts a lot of thought into the overall sound of her songs, which even some more popular artistes don't. That saying applies to this song. Although I'm not a fan of dirty beats, suggestive lyrics and risqué posing, which is somewhat a departure from Amber's previous releases, I truly believe she has the capacity of making it really big. Mixer is a soulful inferno and it totally blew me away, and What If is a sensual, elegant piece of work that I think I would prefer. If I were to compare this song and say, a song from SZA's debut, it's far easier for me to bite into this than the latter for having more variations in the way she sings different parts, such as the pauses at the start and the falsetto parts. Maybe she's currently in a phase where she is trying to write vastly different styles of songs to prove that she has what it takes to make it big, but I hope she knows that she really shines when she does songs like Mixer and What If. Maybe her next release would be an experimental electronic one like Twigs

You guys are taking this too seriously. The mainstream music scene is indeed inundated with the explicit use of sexual imagery in lyrics and video content, so much so that it's growing trite for me. Getting pounded and overused (side to side), getting excited over the thought of getting undressed, etc. A lot of these music is marketed in ways that just doesn't feel tasteful, even bordering on desperation. There's no subtlety or romanticism in mainstream pop anymore. Many columnists and music news writers have also written about the subject of the 'pornification of pop', so it's not an abstruse opinion. That's why I veer away from the likes of Minaj and Miley Cyrus and look for artistes like Amber, Lianne La Havas, FKA Twigs, Corrine Bailey Rae, Solange, Izzy Bizu, etc. Of course, business is business, and the way business is made doesn't really matter for some as long as it brings in the money. Amber can do anything she likes as long as she is happy with her work and the process, and she can make a decent living out of her craft. Choosing not to judge her as a person and her values is really different from having an opinion on what I like about her work.

I'm not shocked, which the word prude implies; I just don't get the point, and it's both distracting and detracting from the music, i.e. production, choice and variety of instruments and synths, composition, rhythm, mixing quality, etc. Again, it's a personal opinion that I felt I have been tactful with in my original comment, and I don't think it's unreasonable to have preferences in lyrical content. In the same vein, you have every right to prefer songs that can bring you carnal pleasure. Music is supposed to make you feel good.

〔TFGG〕 In case you're thinking I'm some negative-nancy nerd shutting down women with the least bit of respect for their bodies, look up my comment made before this video on Lizzo's 'Tempo'. I applauded her for her talent and conviction despite the video and lyrics being ostentatiously more risque than this one. Why? It just came to me that they were more consistent with what Lizzo's style is, as well as what she what tends to convey in her music, which is confidence and positivity in her own body, e.g. Juice. I loved a quote she had made where she said she enjoys making shapes with her body. This song is just uncharacteristic of how I have always understood Amber as an artiste, as I have been following her since her single 'Monsoon', an affecting song that she had sung with her mother. I love Generous's sense of rhythm, synths and production as much as I do for 'Tempo', but I'm just not as fond of their lyrics and corresponding videos as Amber's other singles like 'Mixer' and 'Love Me Right', simple as that. It's like saying I prefer vanilla over dark chocolate, alright? Stop overreacting, i.e. the pot calling the kettle black.
