Another Time Another Place
Amber Nelon Thompson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've always heard there is a land
Beyond the mortal dreams of man
Where every tear will be left behind
But it must be in another time
There'll be an everlasting light
Shining a purest holy white
And every fear will be erased
But it must be in another place

So, I'm waiting for another time and another place
Where all my hopes and dreams will be captured
With one look at Jesus' face
Oh, my heart's been burnin'
My soul keeps yearnin'
Sometimes I can't hardly wait
For that sweet, sweet someday
When I'll be swept away
To another time and another place

I've grown so tired of earthly things
They promise peace but furnish pain
All of life's sweetest joys combined
Could never match those in another time
And though I've put my trust in Christ
And felt His Spirit move in my life
I know it's truly just a taste
Of His glory in another place

So, I'm waiting for another time and another place
Where all my hopes and dreams will be captured
With one look at Jesus' face
Oh, my heart's been burnin'
My soul keeps yearnin'
Sometimes I can't hardly wait
For that sweet, sweet someday
When I'll be swept away
To another time and another place

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Amber Nelon Thompson's song "Another Time, Another Place" speak of a yearning for a place beyond the worldly realm, a place where all sorrow and pain will be left behind. The idea of a superior land beyond mortal dreams has been present in various cultures and religions throughout history. The lyrics evoke an image of an everlasting light, shining in a holiness that can never be achieved on earth, and a world where fears are erased. The singer expresses her deep desire to be transported to this perfect world, to look upon Jesus' face and have all her dreams and hopes fulfilled.

The song describes the imperfection of earthly things, how they promise peace but only cause pain, and how the sweetest joys in life cannot match those found in another time. The singer acknowledges that she has placed her trust in Christ and felt his Spirit within her, but recognizes that this is only a taste of what His glory in another place could be like. It speaks to the human experience of feeling a deep longing for something beyond what can be found in this world, a sense of homesickness for a place that perhaps we have never seen but feel in our souls.

Overall, the lyrics of "Another Time, Another Place" express a deep yearning for a perfect world, beyond this earthly realm, where all sorrows and fears are left behind, and the soul can finally be at peace.

LOVE Amber's voice. Smooth and powerful at the same time. Hearing her with Michael is an added treat. Just beautiful!

@BlessedBaubles

FINALLY! I get to hear the crisp, clear, beautiful voice of Amber! I've been waiting to hear her since Michael English posted that he was singing with her in the studio some time back. Michael, you are right. She is powerful! She couldn't have picked a more perfect voice to sing with her on this song! Michael is TIMELESS! Always completely leaves me speechless! Only JESUS could make a man sing like that.

I grew up on the original, and no offense to Sandi Patty and Wayne Watson at all, but this new arrangement is fabulous. I am happy to see and hear Michael English back performing/singing.

Wow!! Didn't think I would ever hear a version of this song That Could Touch the original. Amber's voice is so crisp and smooth and to pair it with the power of a Michael English amazing amazing job. Sandy and Wayne would be proud

@francoisbessing

I never thought I'd find a version of this timeless song that could touch the original...boy was I wrong. I knew Michael English would do great but I didn't know Amber Nelson. What a pure tone! I'll have to start following her music now.

I totally agree. No offense to all the Sandi Patti fans out there, but it's refreshing to hear another rendition of this classic. This is an exceptional duo. And can you guys believe Michael?? This is a difficult song to do, and after all these years, he it lights it up!
