My Baby Just Cares For Me
Ambrose and His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My baby don't care for shows
My baby don't care for clothes
My baby just cares for me
My baby don't care for cars and races
My baby don't care for high-tone places

Liz Taylor is not his style
And even Lana Turner's smile
is somethin' he can't see

My baby don't care who knows it
My baby just cares for me

My baby don't care for shows
And he don't even care for clothes
My baby just cares for me

My baby don't care for cars and races
My baby don't care for
he don't care for high-tone places

I wonder what's wrong with baby
My baby just cares for

Just says his prayers for
My baby just cares for me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ambrose and His Orchestra's "For You Just You My Baby" convey a sense of simplicity and steadfastness in the singer's romantic relationship. The song seems to be about a love interest who doesn't care about material possessions or societal status, but only cares for the singer themselves. The repetition of the phrase "My baby just cares for me" emphasizes the importance of this sentiment to the singer.

The first and third lines of the song establish that the love interest "don't care for shows" or "high-tone places," which suggests that they are uninterested in frivolous or extravagant displays of wealth or status. Instead, the love interest is more concerned with the singer personally, as expressed in the second and fourth lines of the first stanza: "My baby don't care for clothes" and "My baby just cares for me." The second stanza goes further to say that the singer's love interest doesn't even care about famous movie stars like Elizabeth Taylor or Lana Turner.

The song concludes by emphasizing the primary focus of the love interest's affection, with the repetition of "My baby just cares for me." The final lyrics suggest that the singer is so taken aback by the simplicity of their love interest's desires that they wonder "what's wrong with baby." Overall, "For You Just You My Baby" is a sweet and simple ode to a relationship centered around love and personal connection, rather than materialism.

What an amazing arrangement, performance and recording: it stands up solidly against the Jack Payne version.

And a brilliant transfer; though the thumps around 2:27 can be lessened with micro-editing; and 2 dB on the 125 and 250 Hz bands does bring Sam Browne more forward.  But that's whinging - I wish I could do transfers and silent surfaces as well as you do - it's a great upload; thanks.

blackpoolbarmpot

I can't understand anyone not liking this superb version of this famous song. I think some people just 'Thumbs-Down' for the hell of it, or maybe they think 'Punk-Rock' is the height of 'good music' !!!! lol.
