Larrieux was born and brought up in the neighborhood of Greenwich Village in New York City. Her mother was a dance critic and professor who encouraged Larrieux to grow up in a free-spirited, artistic environment. Many of her influences are drawn from R&B, soul, jazz, folk, hip-hop and gospel, with flashes of Middle Eastern, West African, and Indian ethnic styles. She lives in New York City with her husband and two daughters.
As a solo artist, her music is mostly categorized as fitting within the nu-soul genre, though she also dabbles in jazz, blues and gospel sounds. She sang lead vocals with Sade's band Sweetback while Sade was on hiatus. On her last album 'Lovely Standards' she gravitated away from nu-soul to produce a cover album made up of songs from the jazz and blues singers that inspired her. Larrieux is also influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder and Prince — as she has previously credited on her website.
Infinite Possibilities

Oh life has just begun
Got a temper like a gun
Pointing it at everyone
That's his game
And it helps him to get through the day
But a voice inside him says
How much longer can I play
[Chorus]
He's got infinite possibilities
I can see them now
It's the unbroken chains of his past by which he's bound
He's got infinite possibilities
I can feel them now
If he chooses well, then nothing can tear him down
Peace of mind
Is not easy for him to find
And he's walkin' a thinner line
In a place where another man is keeping his time
Though he's young
He's not like everyone
He sees what he's become
And he'd rather be standing in the sun
[Chorus]
[Chorus 2x]
With infinite possibilities
Infinite...possibilities
Stand in the sun and see
The song Infinite Possibilities by Amel Larrieux describes the struggle of a young man who is always angry and frustrated with life. He has a short temper that he directs towards everyone, yet he doesn't feel satisfied. Despite having an attitude that helps him get through the day, he hears a voice inside him asking how long he can continue to play. The singer portrays the man as being bound by the unbroken chains of his past, and he struggles to find peace of mind.
The chorus of the song highlights the fact that the man in question has endless possibilities that he needs to tap into. Despite being held back by his past, the singer believes that he can achieve greatness if he chooses wisely. The man can either continue living in frustration or work to break free from his past and transcend his limitations. In the end, the singer encourages the man to stand in the sun and experience infinite possibilities.
