During her time on X Factor, Lily performed numerous covers ranging from the Chris Cornell inspired Billie Jean (Live) (originally made famous by Michael Jackson) to the Queen classic The Show Must Go On (Live), usually receiving positive reviews from the judges. While she was the first girl to be eliminated from the live shows, Lily's popularity allowed her to be voted back into the competition. This interesting X Factor journey propelled Lily into the public conscious, even though she did not win the competition.
After Lily embarked on the X Factor Tour, it was announced that she had signed a Β£500,000 three-album record deal. In August 2012, she reveled that her debut album would feature an eclectic range of genres; "There's a bit of dubstep on there as well which I think will surprise people! The sound is all over the place but I think the record works because we've only included songs that I really connected with." In September 2012, she released her debut single, You Bring Me Joy, which reached number one on iTunes following its release, holding the top spot for 4 days and selling over 50,000 copies on its first week. Lily's second single, Shut Up (And Give Me Whatever You Got) was officially released in January 2013, peaking at number 9 on the mid-week charts and number 11 on the UK Singles Chart. The next month, she was announced to be the supporting act for Girls Aloud's arena tour, Ten: The Hits Tour, which she will participated in from February to March of that year. April 2013 saw the release of both the album Be a Fighter itself, as well as it's third single Party Over.

Promises
Amelia Lily Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I could play your dirty game
Spin a web around your name
Keep my feelings for myself yea
And I could look into your eyes
Tell you all those pretty lies
But I donβt play those games so well
βCause if I take a rick gotta risk it all
I believe that even if I fall
Never ever let love bring me down
I will never turn around
(Chorus β part 1)
Promises made for fools
But I crushed my heart and burned it
Promise and trusted in you
βCause I was way above
(Chorus β part 2)
Our promises made of dreams
Still we donβt have much time
You still build and tear down it seems
But Iβll be around, hear my part
(Verse)
I used to hide beneath my skin
Watch the air, letβs dive right in
Scared of shattering my dreams, yea
Iβve been waiting on the edge
Steady growing through my hair
Finally I dived in deep
(Pre-Chorus)
βCause if I take a rick gotta risk it all
I believe that even if I fall
Never ever let love bring me down
I will never turn around
(Chorus β part 1)
Promises made for fools
But I crushed my heart and burned it
Promise and trusted in you
βCause I was way above
(Chorus β part 2)
Our promises made of dreams
Still we donβt have much time
You still build and tear down it seems
But Iβll be around, hear my part
(Bridge)
Oh no, good intentions
Itβs sending my heart in the wrong direction
All my good intentions
Always sending my heart in the wrong direction
All those good intentions
People saying girl you better change direction
All my good intentions
I guess Iβll better get some salutation
(Chorus β part 1)
Promises made for fools
But I crushed my heart and burned it
Promise and trusted in you
βCause I was way above
(Chorus β part 2)
Our promises made of dreams
Still we donβt have much time
You still build and tear down it seems
But Iβll be around, hear my part
(Chorus β part 1)
Promises made for fools
But I crushed my heart and burned it
Promise and trusted in you
βCause I was way above
(Chorus β part 2)
Our promises made of dreams
Still we donβt have much time
You still build and tear down it seems
But Iβll be around, hear my part
(Bridge)
Oh no, good intentions
Itβs sending my heart in the wrong direction
All my good intentions
Always sending my heart in the wrong direction
All those good intentions
People saying girl you better change direction
All my good intentions
I guess Iβll better get some salutation
In Amelia Lily's song "Promises," the lyrics delve into the theme of love and trust in relationships. In the first verse, the singer acknowledges that she could play the "dirty game" of lying and manipulating to protect herself from getting hurt, but she decides not to because she is not good at playing those games. The pre-chorus emphasizes that real love involves risk and that even if she falls, she will never let that bring her down. The chorus consists of two parts, emphasizing the power of promises in relationships. The first part reveals that promises made in love can lead to foolish decisions, while the second part acknowledges that promises are made of dreams, but they have an expiration date, and the other person seems to be building and tearing down the relationship.
In the second verse, the singer reveals that in the past, she was afraid of shattering her dreams and had been waiting on the edge, but she finally took the risk and "dived in deep." The bridge highlights the idea of good intentions, which often lead the singer's heart in the wrong direction, and people are telling her to change direction. However, she does not want to give up on love and seeks "salvation" and a way to make things work. The repetition of the chorus at the end emphasizes the importance of promises in relationships and the need to hold onto them despite the risks and challenges.

to be honest, to get up to sing as a duo, no rehearsal, no practice at such short notice, I think they both did so good, better than good, so so good, off the bat. Fair play to both of them, and why bash them? They both sounded great.
