1) AMEN is a cross-genre rock band mainly taking influence from 1980s hardcore, punk rock and black metal. They have had a number of different band members, with lead vocalist Casey Chaos the only surviving member of the original lineup. They had been voted "Overall Best Band in the World" and "Best Live Band in the World" by readers of Metal Hammer Magazine. Like iconic industrial rockers Nine Inch Nails, the band's music and lyrics are written entirely by the frontman, who also performs all instruments for studio recordings except for drums which are played by Shannon Larkin.
Early recordings were created in 1994 by Casey Chaos in the basement of his Los Angeles home, playing each instrument himself and using the name Amen to release the subsequent EP. Chaos later met Paul Figueroa through the LA music scene, and they formed a partnership. In the following months and years, the band expanded to include drummer Shannon Larkin, guitarist Sonny Mayo and bassist John Fahnestock, and they were signed to metal label Roadrunner Records.
Following the release of their eponymous album, produced by Ross Robinson, the band were set to tour Europe in December of 1999. This did not happen, with the band blaming a last-minute withdrawal of funding shortly prior to departure. Following this incident, Amen and Roadrunner went their separate ways. Subsequently several band members left, accompanied by a perceived drop in popularity. Chaos was helped out by friend Daron Malakian, whom he had met while both Amen and Malakian's band System of a Down were touring Australia as part of the Big Day Out music festival. Amen were the first band signed to Malakian's EatUrMusic label, and their subsequent release, Death Before Musick, was regarded as being a mild commercial success.
The 2005 tour supporting the album Death Before Musick was postponed when Chaos was rushed into hospital. Apparently against medical advice the tour was restarted a couple of months late.
At the last few shows the band played during 2005 they performed a couple of new songs.

Under the Robe
Amen Lyrics

I'd just watch the sick turn into the witches
Well I sit and wait, a call of arms to the bodies deceived
Well I just sit and wait, till your eyes believe in little school
To S.O.S.
Paranoia pays for your freedom
Well I just sit and wait, everybody frees them
Just how does it feel?
'Cause I just sit and wait, everybody frees them
Till the body's healed
We don't need no more of your observations
'Cause we sit and hide under the robe
We don't need no more of your observations
We just feel alive under the robe
The liberation posted up the signs
And every girl in this fuckin' house is on the pill
I had to turn my fucking skin inside out just for you
Said sit and wait, thought you're gonna make some
Fuck pig like you
Said I'm the sick one baby
With the right abuse in little school
Well S.O.S.
Paranoia pays for your freedom
Paranoia pays
Don't read the signs, everybody frees them
The signs, everybody feeds them
The signs, everybody frees them
No sign
We don't need no more of your observations
'Cause we sit and hide under the robe
We don't need no more of your observations
We just feel alive under the robe
Paid for
Paranoia pays for your freedom
Population pays
Paid for
The S.O.S.
We're under robed that'll pay for freedom
We're under robed that'll pay for freedom
We're under robed that'll pay for, that'll pay for
That'll be the robe and pay for your freedom
Freedom, punish that pig
The song "Under the Robe" by Amen discusses the idea of trading one's skin for riches and how the sick can turn into witches. The lyrics portray how one may feel trapped by their body, as if it is a prison. The main character sits and waits for an opportunity to arise, knowing that those around him are deceived. The individual believes that paranoia pays for freedom and that liberation is key to a better life. The lyrics "We just feel alive under the robe" suggest that the persona feels more alive and free when hidden.
The song discusses how people don't need others to observe them in order to feel better about themselves. They are hiding under a robe and don't need to be observed to feel more alive. The persona believes that paranoia pays for freedom and that it enables people to see the world more clearly. The idea of turning one's skin inside out for someone is also mentioned, perhaps meaning that people are willing to do whatever it takes to feel connected to others.
