Another Perfect Day
American Hi-Fi Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm holding on, waiting for your call
It's simple, but I can't explain this
I'm sinking down; I feel like I could die
I'm falling off; I don't know why

I still believe it when you say
It's another perfect day
Another perfect day
I still believe it when you say
It's another perfect day
Another perfect day

So I might try to leave it all behind
I know tomorrow's not so bright now
I'll say goodbye 'cause nothing good can last
(You wear and figured no where fast)
And today I don't know how to keep it all inside
But I guess I'll let it slide

I still believe it when you say
It's another perfect day
Another perfect day
I still believe it when you say
It's another perfect day
Another perfect day

Today I don't know why
I thought that it was real
But I guess it's no big deal

I still believe it when you say
It's another perfect day
Another perfect day
I still believe it when you say
It's another perfect day
Another perfect day

I don't know how

I don't know how
To let it slide

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to American Hi-Fi's "Another Perfect Day" convey the feeling of holding onto an idealized version of a relationship, even as it crumbles. The singer is waiting for their partner to call, but as they sink deeper into insecurities and doubts, they can't explain why they feel this way. The repeated phrase, "It's another perfect day," is a lie they keep telling themselves, even as they consider leaving the relationship behind. The final lines, "I don't know how / To let it slide," suggest that the singer is struggling with both denial and a fear of losing the familiar, even if it's not good for them.

I loved American Hi-Fi's first two albums (not so much their third), and this is by far the best song. So sweet and simple and well sung. So awesome!

My daughter just walked into the room having woken up, i greeted her and said 'another beautiful day' and suddenly this song came into my head for the first time in many years!!
