American Idol is produced by Fremantle North America which is owned by German Bertelsmann. Each contestant may sign a contract with one of Bertelsmann's many music labels because Bertelsmann owns half of Sony BMG. Kelly carried that song for them if you listen closely. People forget the show wanted Tamyra to win and Kelly truly came out of nowhere and blew them all away in the end. They sort of did the same thing to Jennifer Hudson
