American Pearl hail from the Hollywood scene that sired Buckcherry into the hard rock realm. The four-piece formed in 1997 when gathering around guitarist Kevin Quinn's famed Sunset Boulevard tattoo stop where frontman guitarist Kevin Roentgen was a frequent customer. Eventually the two decided to pick up their guitars again after individual projects had dispersed and fellow musicians Noah Shane (drums) and Rodney Rocha (bass) joined the band soon thereafter. American Pearl plugged their thirsty post-grunge sounds across the L.A. club circuit, later scoring opening spots with Buckcherry and the Cult, as well as playing at Woodstock '99. Their self-titled debut, released in mid-2000 on Wind-Up, was produced by Sex Pistols' Steve Jones. American Pearl spent the latter half of summer 2000 playing dates with labelmates Creed.

Mother@#$%&! comes up in my face
And says "I'm livin' my final glory and you've got nowhere to run
No one to answer to but my gun"
Take your hate shelf my pride
I'd fly low to get you high
I'd embrace I'd lie
Anything just to free your mind
Your mind is tellin' you there's seconds left
Well I've held my hand to nothin' and I've pushed my fears away
But now I fear I've seen the darkest day
Take your hate shelf my pride
I'd fly low to get you high
I'd embrace I'd lie
Anything to free your mind
Take your place do your time anything just to
The choice is made drop the blade my head is sinkin' anyway
My choice is fate another victim of the system under hate
Take your place do your time
Anything just to¡
The lyrics to American Pearl's song, "Free Your Mind," touch on themes of hate, control, fear, and ultimately, freedom. The singer describes feeling trapped in a cycle of negativity and violence, dealing with struggles and challenges that never seem to end. The ongoing conflict and aggression from others, including one specific person who threatens him with a gun, have left him feeling powerless and helpless.
Despite this, the singer remains determined to break free from the cycle and help others do the same. He's willing to do almost anything to make this happen, including sacrificing his own pride and telling lies to get others to open their minds and see things a different way. In the end, he acknowledges that making the choice to break free and change your life can be difficult and even dangerous, but it's ultimately worth it in order to find true freedom and peace of mind.
Overall, "Free Your Mind" is a powerful and evocative song that speaks to the struggles that many people face in their lives, and the desperate desire to break free from negative patterns and find freedom and happiness.
