In 2005, Amerie burst back onto the music scene with her fourth single "1 Thing", which was used as the theme song for the Will Smith movie "Hitch". "1 Thing" went to the top of the charts in various international markets, including the US, UK and others around the world. It earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance (the album "Touch" was also nominated for the "Best Contemporary R&B Album" Grammy ). The album sold an estimated 800,000 copies worldwide and went gold in the US and silver in the UK.
Amerie's third album 'Because I Love It' was released in the UK , Europe and Asia in 2007. The single "Take Control" was released in October 2006, and it enjoyed international success. The second single "Gotta Work" did not fare as well in the charts, despite receiving heavy airplay on UK and European music video channels. The album has sold a combined total of 310,000 copies worldwide and is her most critically acclaimed album.
In late 2007, was reported that Amerie had left her label Columbia Records, and signed with the Island Def Jam Music Group.
Amerie revealed the album title to be changed from 'Breakups To Makeups' to 'In Love & War'. Amerie also announced that her first single off the album will be titled "Why R U?" produced by The Buchanans. The single premiered online in the week of May 11th and received fairly mixed reviews. The track itself is even compared to Mary J. Blige's "What's The 411?" and "My Life" album, because of the old school feel.
Amerie changed her artist name to Ameriie (extra I) in 2010. She said that it gave her more positive energy as an artist. She changed her artist name back to Amerie (without the extra I) with the double EP releases '4AM Mulholland' and 'After 4AM' in 2018.
Right now her main focus is on books, youtube channel and her son and husband.

I guess I'm a tell you
Don't know if I should
I don't do it everyday
So baby listen good
It's so hard to admit it
You caught my interest
But now I'm so willin'
Little to aggressive
But it's kinda fly
Cause you got the swagga
Like no other guy
I don't know how you do it
There must be something to it
Cause whatcha doin' to me
I just can't shake it
(whatcha doin' to me)
In the back of my mind
I know I'm wastin' my time
I put it all on the line
Cause it's dangerous
No matta how hard I try
About what I feel inside
I can't do anything to contain this
I can't listen to you
Cause I don't know what to do
About controlling myself
And I like it
But I know the game that I'm playin'
I'm game with it
It's so dangerous
No, na na na no, no, no
So dangerous
No, na na na no, no, no
So dangerous
I bet you must be thinkin'
That you got me stuck
Drinking all your words down
All n' got me drunk
And I got to admit it
You got me thinkin' for reasons
For me to fall back n' give in and let go boy
I can't do it no
I can't do it no
In the back of my mind
I know I'm wastin' my time
I put it all on the line
Cause it's dangerous
No matter how hard I try
About what I feel inside
I can't do anything to contain this
I can't listen to you
Cause I don't know what to do
About controlling myself
And I like it
But I know the game that I'm playin'
I'm game with it
It's so dangerous
No, na na na no, no, no
So dangerous
No, na na na no, no, no, no
Now talk to me
Talk to me
Talk to me
Talk to me
Just talk to me, uh uh
In the back of my mind
I know I'm wastin' my time
I put it all on the line
Cause it's dangerous
No matter how hard I try
About what I feel inside
I can't do anything to contain this
I can't listen to you
Cause I don't know what to do
About controlling myself
And I like it
But I know the game that I'm playin'
I'm game with it
It's so dangerous
In the back of my mind
I know I'm wastin' my time
I put it all on the line
Cause it's dangerous
No matta how hard I try
About what I feel inside
I can't do anything to contain this
I can't listen to you
Cause I don't know what to do
About controlling myself
And I like it
But I know the game that I'm playin'
I'm game with it
It's so dangerous
Amerie's song "Dangerous" is a confession of a woman who has fallen for a guy who has an irresistible charm. The song starts with the woman telling the man that she wants to say something but doesn't know if she should. She admits that the man has caught her interest and that she finds his aggressiveness and swag attractive. She can feel the dangers of falling for him, but she can't resist his charm. In the chorus, she acknowledges that she is wasting her time trying to resist her feelings, but she can't contain them. She likes what he is doing to her, but she knows that it's dangerous.
In the second verse, the woman admits that the man has intoxicated her with his words, and she finds herself thinking about reasons she should give in to him. She can't resist him, but she knows she is playing a game with him that's dangerous. Throughout the song, the singer's voice perfectly captures the emotions of the lyrics with the occasional sound effects and ad libs, making it an addictive R&B track.
