I drive a Prius Prime in full electric mode 95% of the time and love it. I have a 22 mile round trip commute, and with planning, I really could live with a short range electric.

Ugly isn't it and exactly the same except the rear window has the bit that hangs over to let rain run down and looking at the wing mirrors should help. Them hexagonal wheels though, how it run on them 🤔 😁

I think everything about this car is amazing, it actually looks really sporty. Living abroad myself I think most cities in Europe don't allow faster driving in the towns anyways. Excellent!👍🤩

Brilliant, a stripped down basic practical vehicle (apart from the hub caps that I'd bin straight away -- what's wrong with steel wheels?) I want a diesel version that would do 50 max.
Technically electric vehicles do not have an ignition, there's nothing to ignite.

it looks pretty good in a weird way and I've driven some heaps in the past so being wrapped in plastic is no problem. if it went upto 40mph I would be very interested and obviously if it did a few miles more to a charge would be brilliant as I live in the middle of Scotland.

Great car, a great presenter, and a good demo of Rode's wireless mike too!
I'm on the Citroen "interest" list for one of these.
A Citroen Ami, in conjunction with my electric bicycle, and a small ULEZ compliant petrol car for longer trips, will probably reduce my overall emissions by 90 percent.

I am a PEBL owner in the United States. I enjoy riding it and max speed on my PEBL is 25 mph. Good for driving to work and running errands including grocery shopping.
The Citron is a great alternative to using a regular automobile for remedial trips! 😊👍

I was in Paris last week on a work related matter for a few days and I got the chance to have an Ami as company for a couple of hours(it helps when one of your french cousins is a police commissioner to organise it for you)It does what it says on the tin,it gets you from A to B with the minimum of frills or fuss in an urban area and its fun to drive because of its simplicity.If you want a car with AC or a built in screen with GPS,music etc and more sound proofing then there are plenty of cars out there that tick that box but will cost more,this is a vehicle designed to be used in cities where the sound of the motor is drowned out by the sounds of the day to day noises that you get in a city.It may be small but don't let that deceive you because as a 58 year old 5ft 10 chap with a few extra pounds that what I had when I was young,I fitted into it with relative ease & comfort,think of it as Doctor Who's Tardis but on wheels.The turning circle is incredibly small,I was able to do a three point turn on my side of the road without needing to cross over to the other side and parking is a doddle.Not having a rear view mirror can be disconcerting to begin with but you get use to not having it.28 mph is ideal especially when you consider the average speed in the built areas of London is 15mph and in any other British cities 23mph,in Paris its 13mph.The two hours I had it for,I used 37% of the battery.Yep there is a lot of plastic in its interior but its all recycled plastic.If this vehicle is allowed to be sold in the UK,I can see it replacing the traditional moped within our fast food delivery service and if Citroen bring out a van version I can see a lot of small UK delivery type businesses snapping it up,Allez Ami

The rear view mirror thing shouldn't be an issue, you can get the stick on one from the pound shop. I would. My spatial awareness is madrigal! 😆

Another superb review again Tish! The Ami looked very interesting and unique! Considering the price, I believe it seemed very practical and just gets the job done! I like the look of it, but probably wouldn't want to be seen in one unless it was at like a theme park (😂)! I was wondering what you're thoughts and feelings are sitting in and driving a left-hand drive vehicle! Keep doing what you're doing with the terrific reviews! That was a fantastic video Tish, thanks. Also very good question. Way back in 1991 I got my Legoland Driving Licence in Denmark. Now 30 years later I am currently giving a family member driving lessons. As I keep telling him, it doesnt matter how good of a driver you are, it's everyone else you have to look out for. What I thought was funny, my first car was a four speed Citroen AX 1.0 (Jazz) with a manual choke. It cost me £3k back in 1997.

Absolutely would drive it! The appearance is unpretentious, it has a very specific purpose and should be embraced.
Ideal for short work-commute, supermarket etc. On that premise, the driver would know the appropriate 30mph route to take.
Councils should of course provide 100% Free parking *Anywhere*, if there are dedicated AMI corrals we should expect free fast-charge also. BIG Thumbs up!!

I live in London and I'd love to have a hire service with Amis. I used to be a member of the Blue City electric car club but that failed (Jan 2020) because not enough of the 32 London boroughs agreed to allow charging stations. I hope a company can setup renting Amis and get around this problem.

I remember seeing old ladies and gents trundling by in their VSPs (vehicules sans permis) in rural France on their way to market/ the cafe/ the supermarket. It is a much safer way to travel than on a moped and useful for people who need to do short journeys in locations where public transport is rare. From what I remember, accidents were rare and insurance relatively cheap, probably because they couldn't do much damage.

We need to think a bit more openly about transport solutions, especially with dealing public transport, increasingly crowded roads and higher density living.

Unfortunately, the Voiture sans permis are probably in use more by drink drivers than little old ladies, as it's the only car they can drive once banned. They are a hazard in rural France due to their low speed. Also, as the drivers don't have a licence to lose, they continue drink driving. A bit of a generalisation there, but I have experienced it on more than one occasion. The battered ones are the ones to keep clear of!

Great presentation and great little car. I hope they can eventually sell in the US. I own a 2CV and love it for the same reasons you love this AMI, especially the smiles generated as you drive down the street. Someday, hopefully soon, we'll all live in small towns with their own organic farms nearby and other needs met locally and there'll be no need to drive more than a few miles per day or more than 28 MPH. Except for all the plastic parts (which could be made from non-petroleum materials), the planet will love this car.

yes... in japan they have kei cars but in the west not much... there are some microcars on the streets but very few... its mostly... terracars

I think the Ami could be the next vw beetle/citroën 2cv. In the sense that of can put a lot of people on the road because its affordable and cheap to run. Great review btw!

Another vehicle The Honda C50/90's
Which the C50 would Also have a top speed on the flat of a shade over 30mph but on a hill would be down to 20mph or less unless you accelerated into it best on a clear road Have2 hills near me which are both 1in 15 grades and strangers often change down 2 gears but the locals whizz up in 3rd or 4th
I took a C50 from Liverpool to Sheffield and back and its was a good ride Later on Did the same route on a Honda CX500 and that took it out of us concentration-wise
Looking Forward to a tryout of this vehicle
Have had briefly the use of a Citroen Visa and that was also a well constructed vehicle
on the Flip side I cannot ride a scooter and dropped Them even taking it easy
I have a Full A class UK license by the way not Provisional with over 30+ years logged😄
Was Contemplating buying the New Honda 125CC model but the price point(subject to confirmation) is very close to the Citroen

They should have a model option that ups the speed limit to 35 or 40 mph even if you need a driver's license to drive it. That would be perfect for retired people or the shopping run.

As a scooter alternative, the Ami is brilliant. Does the UK have restricted licensing for young teens? Some US states allow driver's permits at 14 and license at 15.

It does indeed, in the UK you need to be 17 to apply for a provisional car license. You can have a 50cc scooter from 16 on a provisional license if you pass a CBT (compulsory basic training) course. But basically until then it’s bicycle, the bus or a walk.

Great video/review Tish, I always was a fan of quirky Citroens. It makes a lot of sense for short commute people and one can park it where other cars wont fit. The other major advantage is MOT and servicing costs on a s/h car and constant stop start driving can ruin ice engines. An old ghetto blaster would provide the sounds to drown out the Jet lol. AS regards the price a good golf cart probably costs more ?? If it remains LHD it would make ECONOMIC sense to bring them into the U.K. ?

@statement leaver All anyone actually needs is to accept it for what it is. It's a moped for very local journeys inside 30 mph limits. If you want to drive outside that then maybe it's not a vehicle they should choose? As it's a 3 pin plug it could be charged anywhere eg relatives house, friends house(with a small payment) or possibly even at work. Anyone who uses these at full capacity on a single journey/use should look elsewhere. In reality it will be put on charge every time you park it up so will or shouldn't need a full charge so an hour or so every day will be fine.
I'm waiting to see the actual price when it gets here as it appears it will be sold in the UK via dealers so there will be extra cost right there. Also at the moment there is every chance that we will be on World Trading rules shortly (WTO) so that MAY push the price up to nearer £10k in which case I won't be getting one.

@Richard Fanders With one mile per 100 minutes of charging it would have a range of about two or three miles with only the odd charge in the depths of winter. That could be an option for people who can charge but its difficult and only need to go a short distance.

Good to see the enthousiasme of UK guys. In France you can buy it for 6000 € or rent it for 20 € per month. 45 k/h is the max authorized in France for moped allowed to teenagers starting at 14. Maybe if Citroen sell it to UK with different regulation they could increase speed ?

@Steve Exactly unless you can travel on 30mph roads this vehicle is no use. Would you travel on a moped on main roads?? For housing estates or getting through towns and cities in town speed limits then it's fine if you need to travel on any national road whether country or ring roads just get a car. Look at the problems we have with e scooters. It's not the vehicle it's the idiots driving them so can you imagine someone driving a car suddenly meeting a 30mph vehicle on a blind bend? As a motorcyclist I can confirm this scenario but at least a bike/scooter/moped is narrow so generally you have the room.

Interesting concept. Styling needs improvement; I'd give it a smooth egg shape. I'd also feel better about more range; minimum of sixty miles, with an eventual goal of one hundred miles as batteries improve.

It’s definitely a like it or hate it design, but either way that’s better than looking like everything else! The boxier it is, the more space it has inside for a given size. There’s no way to make something like this egg shaped without either making it bigger or making the inside more cramped.

Really good car review, you did say it only goes 28 mph, on my drive to work in Manchester each day, my average speed is 16mph with the traffic, not the best looking car, but in city traffic it would be ideal.

I’m in Manchester and ride a motorcycle most times except winter snow ice days I drive.My average speed back and forth to work would be 40mph.Not sure where you are driving from-to.Mostly traffic lights and bicycles that slow things down for me.

I like almost everything about this 'car !' apart from how far you can drive on one 'full' 3 hour load... I guess it will be updated year-on-year and fitted with more and better batteries (as THEY are developed) it will go further on one 'load' and THEN I buy one!

You can easily over speed with UK winds coming from the rear, hence take it easy.
Btw , crash test results are not bad , French plastic quality, no doubt.

This car would be perfect for drive around in London. I have a 20 miles commute daily . A decent electric bike costs around 1.5K and monthly travel pass around 200 quid. Getting this VEHICLE would be a no brainer.

I am old enough to remember milk floats, they were great, nippy and ahead of their time!!? Good review and a lot safer than a lot of transportation. Rush hour in any town or city makes this a real viable option imho. I love 2CVs and could see myself subscribing to this to go where buses don’t. Thanks
