Over the course of three years, they quietly put together their debut record during evenings and weekends as they called in local friends (Louis Philippe) and visiting musicians (Damon & Naomi, Gary Olson of The Ladybug Transistor) for sessions, building up the songs’ multifaceted arrangements and vocal harmonies with harps, bouzoukis, strings, recorders, and brass over the core of dual Spanish guitars and the dream imagery of their bilingual lyrics.
The result is a focused, cohesive jewel of chamber pop that reflects a little of Gal Costa and Caetano Veloso’s elegant brand of bossa nova, a bit of Erik Satie’s haunting night music, and a large dose of spooky psychedelic folk. But the beautiful harmony that sings throughout the record makes it all their own.
At times spare and empty, at times rich with instrumental texture, and at times jazz-tinged and hypnotic, Street of the Love of Days rivals anything either Alasdair or Lupe has recorded before.

In the winter sun
The lyrics of "In the Winter Sun" by Amor de Días are open to interpretation, as they do not follow a linear narrative. The first stanza can be interpreted as a description of the changing of seasons, from autumn to winter. The mention of "cross trees on the road" could suggest the shape of dead trees forming a cross in the middle of a field. The groove may refer to a line of trees that have been planted in a pattern. As the days get shorter and the temperature drops, the winter sun provides a fleeting warmth that contrasts with the winter's icy grip. The repetition of the phrase "in the winter sun" emphasizes the transience of light during this season. The final "laaaa... aaaa" is almost like a sigh, as though the passage of time is overwhelming.
The second stanza is more abstract, emphasizing the imagery of "blue clouds seeking dusk". The singer then mentions something unintelligible happening with lightning, which further adds to an atmosphere of foreboding. Again, the winter sun is present, but it almost feels like a brief respite from the darkening skies. The "Ahhhhhhh" that follows is almost like a cry of despair, as though the singer is coming to terms with the inevitability of change and the power of nature.
Overall, the lyrics of "In the Winter Sun" emphasize the passage of time and the changing of seasons. The winter sun is a recurring motif, suggesting both the beauty of light and the futility of trying to hold onto it. The imagery is somewhat ambiguous, but it is clear that the singer is grappling with feelings of melancholy and uncertainty.
