Lee grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA. He has been quoted as saying that he is fortunate to have seen different sides of life in America. Lee enrolled at the University of South Carolina in 1995. He began to play guitar and write songs seriously while he studied English. After graduating with an English degree, Lee moved back to Philadelphia to teach elementary school. He later made the tough decision to stop teaching in order to pursue a career in music. Shortly thereafter, he released a self-produced EP that featured five of his original songs, which did extremely well in Philadelphia and created a buzz. Norah Jones was the person who finally gave Lee his big breakthrough when she asked him to open for her 2004 tour. Lee then went on to produce his self-titled debut album. In March and April of 2005 Lee opened for the tour that Merle Haggard and Bob Dylan were both embarking on, all 3 performers were extremely well received by critics as the tour went by, with Dylan receiving some of his strongest reviews in years. On October 3, 2006, Lee released his second album, "Supply & Demand" to critical and commercial acclaim.
At the age of only 27, Amos Lee has enjoyed notable success with his debut album and looks to have a promising future in the music business. His favorite artists and sources of inspiration include Stevie Wonder, Neil Young, John Prine, Bill Withers, and James Taylor.

I was just hoping I might find
Ah, the right kind of lover for me, yeah
Well, you know I've been lonesome
God knows we all been lonesome
Ah, some people think being lonesome really means being free
Yes, I would give it all up for you
Yes, I would give it up
Settle down
Stop looking around
I finally found something true
We live in a world full of confusion
A culture based in illusion
Ah, some people think it's amusing
But it's really just fantasy, yeah
I would give it up for you
Yes, I would give t all up for you
Yes, I would give it up
Settle down
Stop looking around
I finally found
Ah, yeah
I would give it all
I would give it all up for you now, baby
I would give it all, I would give it all
I would give it all up for you now, baby
I would give it all, I would give it all
I would give it all up for you now, baby
I would give it all, I would give it all
I would give it all up for you now, baby
The song "Give It Up" by Amos Lee is a heartfelt declaration of love, with the singer expressing his desire to settle down with the right person. The opening lines reflect the anticipation and longing of someone who has been waiting for a long time to find the perfect partner. The sentiment is emphasized by the use of repetition in the verse, which creates a sense of yearning and urgency.
The second verse refers to the universal experience of loneliness, suggesting that many people equate it with freedom when in fact it is a burden. The singer then declares that he has found the right person, and that he is willing to give up his freedom and embrace a settled life with her. This sentiment is repeated in the chorus, with the words "I would give it all up for you" taking on a greater intensity and urgency.
The last verse takes a wider view of the world, suggesting that much of what we see and believe is based on illusion and fantasy. The singer implies that his love is the one true thing in his life, something to which he can anchor himself in a world of confusion and uncertainty.
Overall, the song is a romantic tribute to the power of love and the desire to find someone with whom we can share our lives. It speaks to the universal longing for connection and intimacy, and the willingness to take risks and make sacrifices for the sake of love.
