The album, Right Right Now, is a statement of life; a documentation of its absurdity, its pain and its ecstasy. Following in the tradition of the songwriters and musicians from the seventies that influenced her own material, Amy knew that she wanted to keep the sound organic. With the instrumentation on many of the tracks consisting mainly of guitars, bass and drums, she has been careful not to fill her songs with sounds that she wouldn’t be able to easily recreate in a live scenario.
“I never wanted the final sound to be too far removed from that original moment in my bedroom when it’s just me and my guitar.”
It is this confidence in knowing exactly what she wants which has helped Amy to single-handedly write and produce the debut album, and it is a trait which has been there since an early age. Being born into a family of musicians, writers and artists was sure to influence her ambitions in life; for much of her childhood there was no television in the home, so Amy and her sister were actively encouraged to use their play time creatively.
“My parents’ record collection gave me a great musical education, from Paul Simon to Vivaldi.”
Amy took her time choosing how to channel her creative streak; after studying art, drama, dance and theatre, she went on to acquire a degree in English Literature. It was after which she moved from her native Cornwall to London and started focusing her creative energy on song writing. After composing a collection of songs, Amy taught them to a friend to accompany her on guitar and began to do a few small gigs at various venues throughout the city. When the guitarist cancelled on her at the last minute before a gig, Amy found herself at a crossroads, one that was to have a profound effect on her career.
“Up until that point I had only ever learnt some basic chords on guitar, I never planned to play in public. However that night I had invited along a load of friends and it was too late to cancel with them or the promoter so I knew I would have to get up and play. I was awful. Honest to God terrible. I kept having to pull my mouth away from the microphone just to see whether I had my fingers on the right strings.”
That night Amy went home with a new determination. She knew she needed to learn to play her songs on guitar, and she needed to learn fast. For the next three months she set herself the task of playing live as much as possible. She became a regular at London open mic events.
“..five out of seven nights a week I would be there sounding bad, but knowing I was learning.”
It was trial by fire, but during the two years since then Amy’s skills in song writing, guitar playing and performing have increased with meteoric effect. Right Right Now is the journey of a young woman who is travelling through life with her heart on her sleeve, refusing to compromise and yet fortunately for us, willing to indulge others in it’s details. It is clear that the adventures of Amy May are only just beginning.

Drive through red lights
Just make it here by morning light
And don't be scared no more tonight
Cause there's the moonlight
And it's guiding your heart straight to mine
We can leave it all behind
Cross the statelines
Just what we're searching for tonight
That look in your eyes
That saved my life
Put your arms round my waist
Touch me now with your grace
Make me feel so safe
Put your hands upon my face
Cause I'm here on the edge
And I'm ready to fall
You came and saw through my disguise
One look in my eyes
And you found the parts I tried to hide
How I've always been the first to run
So I'm not left behind
But you're what I thought I'd never find
Put your arms round my waist
Touch me now with your grace
Make me feel so safe
Put your hands upon my face
Cause I'm here on the edge
And I'm ready to fall
So don't doubt what I'm feeling
And don't ask if I know for sure
And don't look down
We're flying so high
Put your arms round my waist
Touch me now with your grace
Make me feel so safe
Put your hands upon my face
Cause I'm here on the edge
And I'm ready to fall
The lyrics to Amy May's "Grace" convey a message of vulnerability and trust in a relationship. The song opens with an urgent plea for her lover to come see her, even if it means driving recklessly and breaking laws. The moonlight is described as a guide, symbolizing a sense of hope and direction. The chorus emphasizes the sense of safety she feels in her partner's embrace, how he has seen through her fear and defenses, and is helping her feel comfortable enough to drop her guard and fall in love. She's expressing her willingness to take the risk, despite not knowing for sure what the outcome may be. Throughout the song, there's a sense of surrender to the moment and to the love that is growing between them.
The lyrics also touch on other themes such as fear of rejection, fear of vulnerability, and fear of being left behind. The line "I'm here on the edge, and I'm ready to fall" metaphorically describes her state of mind and the emotional risk she's taking. The lyrics describe how her lover has seen through her defenses and found the parts of her that she's tried to hide. By putting his arms around her waist and touching her with grace, he's helping her feel safe and loved. The overall message is one of mutual trust, love, and vulnerability.

Get inside your car tonight
Start your journey towards me tonight
Drive through red lights
Do whatever it takes to reach me faster
Just make it here by morning light
Arrive by dawn and brighten up my life
And don't be scared no more tonight
Leave your fears behind and take a chance with me
Cause there's the moonlight
The moon's light will guide you to my arms tonight
And it's guiding your heart straight to mine
Your heart and mine are meant to unite
We can leave it all behind
Forget the past and focus on what's ahead
Cross the statelines
Travel across borders to be with me
And we won't stop until we find
Our search for each other will not end till we meet
Just what we're searching for tonight
We'll find our way into each others arms tonight
That look in your eyes
The way you look at me speaks volumes
That saved my life
Your love has saved me from a dark place
Put your arms round my waist
Embrace me and show me love
Touch me now with your grace
Your touch is gentle and calming
Make me feel so safe
Being with you makes me feel secure
Put your hands upon my face
Hold my face and look into my eyes
Cause I'm here on the edge
I'm on the edge of losing myself
And I'm ready to fall
I'm ready to give in to you completely
You came and saw through my disguise
You saw through the walls I had built around myself
One look in my eyes
You saw my true self with just a glance
And you found the parts I tried to hide
You discovered my deepest secrets
How I've always been the first to run
I've always run away from love
So I'm not left behind
To avoid being hurt by love
But you're what I thought I'd never find
You're the one I never thought I'd meet
So don't doubt what I'm feeling
Believe that my love for you is real
And don't ask if I know for sure
I may not know everything but I know I love you
And don't look down
Don't let anything deter us from our love
We're flying so high
Our love is taking us to the skies
Put your arms round my waist
Hold me tight and never let go
Touch me now with your grace
Your pure love is what I need right now
Make me feel so safe
Keep me safe in your loving arms
Put your hands upon my face
Feel my face and kiss me gently
Cause I'm here on the edge
I'm standing on the cusp of falling in love
And I'm ready to fall
I'm ready to fall in love with you completely
