Amy Regan cannot remember her life without song. Her childhood was spent falling in love with Disney and Rogers & Hammerstein classics and singing inadvertently everywhere she went. She began classical vocal training at age 11 and soon after began teaching herself piano. At age 13 she became infected with the need to write her own music, and began taking guitar lessons with the goal of singing and performing original material. She quickly became a prolific songwriter, performed in coffeehouses at age 15, and recorded her first album with an 8-track in her basement the same year.
She has since then been dedicated to developing her craft as a singer, songwriter, and musician, taking influence from the lyrical integrity of folk musicians Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan, the classic melodic and harmonic beauty of songs by George Gershwin and Cole Porter, and the vocal prowess of Eva Cassidy and Ella Fitzgerald.

And I'm trying to find a different peace of mind
When it seems the world doesn't treat me right
And I am writing you a melody
Cuz our words have seemed so distant recently
I tried to tell you what's on my mind
But you didn't seem to have the time
And keep me safe tonight
So carry on then, carry on
Carry on, then, carry on
And in the morning I'll wake up again
And the new sunlight will lead me to forget
Today, when the world didn't treat me right
But for now this night has got no end
Cuz I wait for you, I thought you were my friend
And you'd always lend a hand
But now I know exactly where you stand
Don't waste your time to keep me safe tonight
He'll come home to me
And he'll ask me how I've been
And I will not say anything to him
As if this were a game I could win
But I'm not disappointed or let down
Cuz it's time my senses finally came around
To know when the world doesn't treat you
You can't expect just one to greet you
And all these distances may never be explained
But I suppose I'll go on loving all the same
So don't think of me too much darling as you change
Just carry on then, carry on
Carry on then, carry on, oh carry on.
In Amy Regan's song Carry On, she sings about feeling like the world is against her and she's struggling to find peace of mind. She's writing a melody to someone she feels disconnected from, hoping it will bridge the gap between them. However, she feels like they don't have time for her and she's left feeling vulnerable and without support. Despite this, she reminds herself to carry on and keep going, even if it hurts. By the end of the song, she accepts that life is full of mystery and sometimes people can't explain the distance between them.
The lyrics of Carry On are incredibly relatable and deeply impactful. Regan touches on themes of friendship, disappointment, and loneliness -- topics that many people can identify with on a personal level. The power of this song lies in its ability to connect with listeners on a deeply emotional level, reminding them that even when things seem hopeless, carrying on is always an option. The song embodies a message of resilience and hope, encouraging listeners to keep going - even when they feel like giving up.
