After quietly making music for several years, she entered a song in the Queensland Music Awards and ended up winning the pop category. She then began touring nationally and received an arts grant that allowed her to work with producer M-Phazes on her song "Adore." The single was well-received on radio upon release in 2016 and went on to become a Top Three hit in Australia in early 2017.
Shark signed with Sony Australia's Wonderlick label, and her official debut EP, Night Thinker, entered the country's albums chart at number two a few months later. The album garnered six Aria Award nominations and took home two, including Best Pop Release and Breakthrough Artist.
In 2018, Shark issued her first full-length effort, Love Monster. ~ Marcy Donelson
Weight of the World
Amy Shark Lyrics

like God in Heaven gave me a turn
dont clin to me, i swear i cant fix you
still in the dark, can you fix me?
freefall, freefall, all through life
if you love me then let go of me
i wont be held down by who i used to be
shes nothing to me
like all my screamings gone unheard
and oh i know you dont believe in me
safe in tye dark, how can you see?
The opening line "feels like the weight of the world" in Amy Shark's Weight of the World delves into the idea of feeling overwhelmed and being unable to cope. The line is an expression of personal pain and failure, with the added notion of a higher power (God) that bestowed the burden upon her. It is her way of saying she feels like she is carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. There is a suggestion of omnipotence to this, and no matter how much she wishes she could change things, it is ultimately out of her control. The next line, "like God in Heaven gave me a turn" indicates that she thinks she is in a specific position in life, similar to the game of life where the player goes through different stages of life. The phrase suggests that she feels like it's her turn to deal with what life has thrown her way.
The following lines “don't cling to me, I swear I can't fix you” is a reminder that in moments when we feel overwhelmed, we often fail to see that others around us may need help too. She is asking the listener not to cling to her, as she herself needs support. She then asks, “Still in the dark, can you fix me?”, indicating her desperation to be saved. The repetition of the phrase “freefall, freefall, all through life” portrays a feeling of powerlessness, as she goes through life with no control, just falling in different directions. The song's main theme revolves around the notion of letting go of the past and the need to be free to move on to the future.
