Better
Amy Speace Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Someone better?s gonna treat me better baby
Someone better?s gonna scratch this itch
Can?t wait forever, I could go crazy
There?s got to be something better than this

Our love read like a Hallmark Greeting
Pretty paper and poetry
The color?s faded and the ink is bleeding
Have you forgotten how it used to be?

Cause every night you put your feet on the table
You put the TV on and tune me out
I?m not looking for no storybook fable
But a little romance would go a long way now

CHORUS

I tried so hard to make this right
It?s not my job to fight this fight
All by myself when you can?t see
That you?re losing me

CHORUS

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Better" by Amy Speace express the singer's desire for something more in her love life. She sings of her frustration with her current partner and their lack of effort in the relationship, believing that someone else could treat her better and satisfy her needs. The opening lines particularly highlight her want for these changes to happen soon as she feels restless and on the verge of losing her sanity. The singer then recalls how their love used to be like a "Hallmark Greeting," all pretty and poetic, but now her partner seems to have forgotten what they had. The metaphorical language here indicates how the relationship has lost its magic, and their connection has become outdated and damaged.

The chorus, then, reflects on the singer's attempts to fix the relationship - how she did everything she could to make it work, but in the end, it's not her responsibility to keep the connection alive. She wants her partner to recognize how they're losing her, and she can't keep fighting alone. The lyrics are emotional and full of longing, conveying the singer's dissatisfaction and desire for change. The storytelling is relatable, and anyone who's been in a relationship that's lost its spark can resonate with these lyrics.

Stand aside, fans! Amy's number one fan is in the house! I would travel 1,000 miles just to hear that voice, not to speak of her lovely face. This is one of the best talents in the last 50 years, bar none. The only female singer I allow even close is Natalie Merchant, but in the end my choice is Amy.

If you haven't already done so, go see this lady and hear music done like it is supposed to be.
