A member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra during her youth, Winehouse signed to Simon Fuller's 19 Management in 2002 and soon recorded a number of songs before signing a publishing deal with EMI. She also formed a working relationship with producer Salaam Remi through these record publishers. Winehouse's debut album, Frank, was released in 2003. Many of the album's songs were influenced by jazz and, apart from two covers, were co-written by Winehouse. Frank was a critical success in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Prize. The song "Stronger Than Me" won her the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors.
Winehouse released her follow-up album, Back to Black, in 2006, which went on to become an international success and one of the best-selling albums in UK history. At the 2007 Brit Awards it was nominated for British Album of the Year, and she received the award for British Female Solo Artist. The song "Rehab" won her a second Ivor Novello Award. At the 50th Grammy Awards in 2008, she won five awards, tying the then record for the most wins by a female artist in a single night and becoming the first British woman to win five Grammys, including three of the General Field "Big Four" Grammy Awards: Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year (for "Rehab"), as well as Best Pop Vocal Album.
Winehouse was plagued by drug and alcohol addiction. She died of alcohol poisoning on 23 July 2011, at the age of 27. After her death, Back to Black temporarily became the UK's best-selling album of the 21st century. VH1 ranked Winehouse 26th on their list of the 100 Greatest Women in Music.
In My Bed

Like you did in the beginning
It's not that we grew apart
A nightingale no longer singing
It's something I know you can't do
Separate sex with emotion
I sleep alone the sun comes up
Every thing is slowing down
River of no return
Recognize my every sound
There is nothing new to learn
You'll never get my mind right
Like two ships passing in the night
In the night, in the night
Want the same thing where we lay
Otherwise mines a different way
A different way from where I'm going
Oh, it's you again listen this isn't a reunion
So sorry if I turn my head
Yours is a familiar face
But that don't make your place safe
In my bed, my bed, my bed
I never thought my memory
Of what we had could be intruded
But I couldn't let it be
I needed it as much as you did
Now it's not hard to understand
Why we just speak at night
The only time I hold your hand
Is to get the angle right
Everything is slowing down
River of no return
You recognize my every sound
There's nothing new to learn
You'll never get my mind right
Like two ships passing in the night
In the night in the night
Want the same thing where we lay
Otherwise mine's a different way
A different way from where I'm going
Oh, it's you again listen this isn't a reunion
So sorry if I turn my head
Yours is a familiar face
But that don't make your place safe
In my bed, my bed, my ba ba dee dee bed
The song "In My Bed" by Amy Winehouse is a hauntingly beautiful ballad about the end of a relationship. The lyrics speak of the difficulties of separating sex and emotion, and the struggle to move on from a past love. The song opens with the heartbreaking line: "Wish I could say it breaks my heart like you did in the beginning." This line sets the tone for the rest of the song, which is filled with longing, regret, and a sense of emotional detachment.
The first verse continues with the lyrics: "It's not that we grew apart, a nightingale no longer singing." Here, Winehouse is drawing an analogy between the end of a relationship and the loss of a bird's song. The idea is that the beauty and joy of the relationship has faded away, leaving only a sense of loss.
The chorus of the song speaks to the difficulty of moving on. Winehouse sings: "Like two ships passing in the night, want the same thing where we lay, otherwise mine's a different way." This line is a metaphor for the fact that the two partners are no longer headed in the same direction emotionally, and that they are unable to connect.
Overall, "In My Bed" is a poignant and beautifully written song that captures the complexity of emotions that can arise when a relationship ends.

Wish I could say it breaks my heart
I wish I could feel sad about our situation like how you initially did
Like you did in the beginning
When we were first struggling
It's not that we grew apart
Our distances aren't because we've grown distant
A nightingale no longer singing
But like a nightingale that forgets its song
It's something I know you can't do
You can't separate sex and emotions
Separate sex with emotion
Having sex without having deeper feelings
I sleep alone the sun comes up
I sleep alone until morning comes
Your still clinging to that notion
But you still believe that idea
Every thing is slowing down
Everything is coming to a halt
River of no return
It feels like we are trapped
Recognize my every sound
You know me so well
There is nothing new to learn
There's nothing new to discover
You'll never get my mind right
You'll never understand me
Like two ships passing in the night
Our paths are different
In the night, in the night
At night, in the dark
Want the same thing where we lay
We might be in the same space, but we have different desires
Otherwise mines a different way
We have different ways we want to go
A different way from where I'm going
My direction is unlike yours
Oh, it's you again listen this isn't a reunion
I don't want to reunite with you
So sorry if I turn my head
I apologize for not wanting to face you
Yours is a familiar face
Your face is a familiar sight
But that don't make your place safe
But that doesn't mean you have a place in my life
In my bed, my bed, my bed
I don't want you in my bed anymore
I never thought my memory
I never believed that what we had happened
Of what we had could be intruded
Could be disturbed or messed with
But I couldn't let it be
But I couldn't let it go
I needed it as much as you did
I wanted it as much as you did
Now it's not hard to understand
Now the situation is clear
Why we just speak at night
Why we only talk in the middle of the night
The only time I hold your hand
The only time I touch you
Is to get the angle right
Is to get in the right position for sex
