A member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra during her youth, Winehouse signed to Simon Fuller's 19 Management in 2002 and soon recorded a number of songs before signing a publishing deal with EMI. She also formed a working relationship with producer Salaam Remi through these record publishers. Winehouse's debut album, Frank, was released in 2003. Many of the album's songs were influenced by jazz and, apart from two covers, were co-written by Winehouse. Frank was a critical success in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Prize. The song "Stronger Than Me" won her the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors.
Winehouse released her follow-up album, Back to Black, in 2006, which went on to become an international success and one of the best-selling albums in UK history. At the 2007 Brit Awards it was nominated for British Album of the Year, and she received the award for British Female Solo Artist. The song "Rehab" won her a second Ivor Novello Award. At the 50th Grammy Awards in 2008, she won five awards, tying the then record for the most wins by a female artist in a single night and becoming the first British woman to win five Grammys, including three of the General Field "Big Four" Grammy Awards: Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year (for "Rehab"), as well as Best Pop Vocal Album.
Winehouse was plagued by drug and alcohol addiction. She died of alcohol poisoning on 23 July 2011, at the age of 27. After her death, Back to Black temporarily became the UK's best-selling album of the 21st century. VH1 ranked Winehouse 26th on their list of the 100 Greatest Women in Music.

And you dressed like a star
Rockin' your F me pumps
And the men notice you
With your Gucci bag crew
Can't tell who he's lookin' to
'Cause you all look the same
And that's your whole claim to fame
Never miss a night
'Cause your dream in life
Is to be a footballer's wife
You don't like players
That's what you say-a
But you really wouldn't mind a millionaire
You don't like ballers
They don't do nothing for ya
But you'd love a rich man six foot two or taller
You're more than a fan
Lookin' for a man
But you end up with one-night-stands
He could be your whole life
If you got past one night
But that part never goes right
In the morning you're vexed
He's onto the next
And you didn't even get no text
Don't be too upset
If they call you a sket
'Cause like the news everyday you get pressed
You don't like players
That's what you say-a
But you really wouldn't mind a millionaire
Or them big ballers
Don't do nothing for ya
But you'd love a rich man six foot two or taller
You can't sit down right
'Cause your jeans are too tight
And you're lucky it's ladies night
With your big empty purse
Every week it gets worse
At least your breasts cost more than hers
So you did Miami
'Cause you got there for free
But somehow you missed the plane
You did too much E
Met somebody
And spent the night getting caned
Without girls like you
There'd be no fun
We'd go to the club and not see anyone
Without girls like you
There's no nightlife
All those men just go home to their wives
Don't be mad at me
'Cause you're pushing thirty
And your old tricks no longer work
You should have known from the jump
That you always get dumped
So dust off your fuck me pumps
The song "Fuck Me Pumps" by Amy Winehouse is a satirical commentary on young women's obsession with money and materialism. The song starts with the depiction of a woman entering a bar, dressed like a star, and wearing her fuck me pumps. The men in the bar notice her immediately, but they can't tell who she's looking for because all the girls in the group look the same. The girl's only claim to fame is that everyone knows her name, and she never misses a night because her dream is to be a footballer's wife.
Amy Winehouse criticizes this kind of woman who claims not to like players but wouldn't mind marrying a millionaire. The woman loves a rich man who is six feet two inches or taller, which shows how materialistic she is. The song portrays that these girls are more than a fan looking for a man, but they end up with only one-night-stands. Although they could have a whole life with some of their one-night-stands, the morning after, he's onto the next, and she didn't even get a text. The song critiques a culture that promotes this kind of behavior and represents it as empowering when it is only disempowering for the women involved.
Amy Winehouse adds that such girls cannot sit down right because their jeans are too tight, and they are lucky it's ladies night. They carry an expensive empty purse, and every week it gets worse, but at least their breasts cost more than hers. The song mocks these women who go to Miami because they got there for free, but somehow they missed the plane. They take too much E, meet somebody, and spend the night getting caned, and ultimately, always end up alone.
