A member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra during her youth, Winehouse signed to Simon Fuller's 19 Management in 2002 and soon recorded a number of songs before signing a publishing deal with EMI. She also formed a working relationship with producer Salaam Remi through these record publishers. Winehouse's debut album, Frank, was released in 2003. Many of the album's songs were influenced by jazz and, apart from two covers, were co-written by Winehouse. Frank was a critical success in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Prize. The song "Stronger Than Me" won her the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors.
Winehouse released her follow-up album, Back to Black, in 2006, which went on to become an international success and one of the best-selling albums in UK history. At the 2007 Brit Awards it was nominated for British Album of the Year, and she received the award for British Female Solo Artist. The song "Rehab" won her a second Ivor Novello Award. At the 50th Grammy Awards in 2008, she won five awards, tying the then record for the most wins by a female artist in a single night and becoming the first British woman to win five Grammys, including three of the General Field "Big Four" Grammy Awards: Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year (for "Rehab"), as well as Best Pop Vocal Album.
Winehouse was plagued by drug and alcohol addiction. She died of alcohol poisoning on 23 July 2011, at the age of 27. After her death, Back to Black temporarily became the UK's best-selling album of the 21st century. VH1 ranked Winehouse 26th on their list of the 100 Greatest Women in Music.
Someone To Watch Over Me

Says that love is blind
Still we're often told
"Seek and ye shall find"
So I'm going to seek
A certain lad
I've had in mind
Haven't found him yet
He's the big affair
I cannot forget
Only man I ever think
Of with regret
I'd like
To add his inital
To my monogram
Tell me
Where is the shepherd
For this lost lamb?
There's a somebody
I'm longin' to see
I hope that he turns
Out to be
Someone to watch over me
I'm a little lamb
Who's lost in the wood
I know I could
Always be good
To one
Who'll watch over me
Although he may
Not be the man some
Girls think
Of as handsome
To my heart
He carries the key
Won't you tell him please
To put on some speed
Follow my lead
Oh, how I need
Someone to watch over me
Won't you tell him please
To put on some speed
Follow my lead
Oh, how I need
Someone to watch over me
Someone to watch over me
The song "Someone to Watch Over Me" is sung by Amy Winehouse, originally composed by George and Ira Gershwin. The lyrics describe a young woman who is in search of a specific person who can watch over her, someone she has been thinking about fondly for some time. She is hoping to find someone who can help her navigate through the complexities of life and offer loving guidance. The song also tells of how love is blind and how we are often told to seek love, but it can be difficult to find the right person who can give us what we need.
The first two stanzas talk about the frustration of the singer in not being able to find the person she is searching for. The third stanza confirms that she is looking for a man, and she wants to add his initial to her monogram. The next stanzas describe the singer as a "lost lamb" who is looking for someone to watch over her. The song creates an image of her as someone who is emotional and sensitive, but has a heart that she is willing to open up to the right person. The final stanza says that she is in such desperate need for someone to watch over her that she is explicitly asking the song to help her find the right man.
Overall, the song is about the idea of finding someone to offer guidance and support in life, and the singer's realization of the significance of having someone to watch over her.

I can't remember who was being interviewed... But he had met Amy, and they started talking about Jazz. And her knowledge was encycopediatric. He couldn't believe it. She knew who had played bass on some recording from 1954, and could debate whether that bassist was more suitable than another bassist who had recorded the same piece a week later... Maybe I'm losing you. But it point was, that she was an absolute Jazz Aficionado.

LOL. Encyclopedic, not encycopediatric.
