Break conventions. Cross borders. Broaden horizons. And thereby transcend their already extraordinary ouvre to a completely new level.
AN EARLY CASCADE have recorded a new album. One that breaks conventions, crosses borders, broadens horizons.
Titled "Versus", it will divide their fanbase, surprise them, challenge them, overwhelm some.
That is a risk the band is willing to take. AN EARLY CASCADE leave not a trace of doubt that this is exactly what they chose to become.
Songs like "Lightning Speed" are still reminiscent of their past output, but with the opening song "Everything Is Wrong Everything Is Ok" alone, AEC lets the listener know that this band decided to no longer follow the rules but MAKE them.
This is not a band "experimenting" - they obviously know very well what they are doing.
At times, "Versus" intangibly resembles Circa Survive, Fear Before, Fall of Troy, even Muse.
With these ingredients, and countless others, AN EARLY CASCADE make their own delicious thing, an energetic and eclectic album that somehow still manages to maintain focused and tight.
No doubt: This is going to be the benchmark for all future AN EARLY CASCADE albums. They could have had it much, much easier.
Cutty Sark
An Early Cascade Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The distance is fading
Weird creatures are crawling
Into the dark night
Red sky is falling
The vultures are circling
And seamen keep singing
Until the mainsail holds tight
We won't give up and don't fear the death
Faith will carry us safely over the surface of the sea
Hope will carry us safely to the place of peace we all
Want to be
Grey sky is lifting
The ashes are falling
The ship wrecks are drowning
Down to the abyss
Blue sky is shining
Grand eagles are circling
And seamen keep singing
Up to never-ending bliss
In shadows of the night
They're calling at the shore
In creepy caves they hide
What the devil's lusting for
Black sky is rising
The distance is fading
Weird creatures are crawling
Into the dark night
Red sky is falling
The vultures are circling
And seamen keep singing
Until the mainsail holds tight
The lyrics of "Cutty Sark" by An Early Cascade offer a vivid, intense portrayal of life on the sea as one navigates through the dangers and uncertainties of a stormy ocean. The opening lines paint a dark, foreboding picture of strange, creepy creatures crawling into the night, which is both thrilling and frightening all at once. As the song progresses, the lyrics describe the different skies that are encountered during the journey - the black sky that rises, the red sky that falls and the blue sky that shines. Each sky comes with its own set of symbolic imagery, like circling vultures during a red sky and soaring eagles during a blue sky.
The lyrics of the song also reference the strong faith that keeps one going in the face of death, and the hope that one clings to in order to reach a place of peace. There is also an ominous note struck by the lines that talk about demonic entities lurking in caves and lusting for something. As a whole, the lyrics of "Cutty Sark" are poetic and vivid, painting a picture of the journey through the high seas as both dangerous and thrilling.
