Que pena
Ana Belén Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Que esta noche no haya luna llena
Para que me coman toda entera
Los lobos que vienen detrás
Y alivien mi soledad
Qué pena
Que no pase nunca lo que esperas
Y no se desborde jamás
Se rinde antes de pelear
Qué pena, el deseo me quema
Qué pena, y el cerebro me frena
Qué pena que esta noche amanezca
Y que yo no te pueda encontrar
Qué pena, si la piel me condena
Qué pena, lo demás me encadena
Qué pena, cuántos labios esperan
Que otras bocas los quieran besar
Qué pena
Que nunca nos soltemos de la rienda
Que no se despierte aquella fiera
Que duerme en el fondo de ti
Y no se atreve a saltar
Por eso digo yo qué pena
No perder a veces la cabeza
No ponerse el mundo por montera
Y dejar de pensar
Y al final jugar sólo por jugar
The lyrics of Ana Belen's song "Que Pena" are reflective of the singer's intense longing for passion and fulfillment in love, as well as her frustration with the obstacles and limitations that prevent her from having it. Throughout the song, she expresses her regret that certain things are not happening as she would like them to, such as the absence of a full moon to attract the wolves that may alleviate her loneliness or the fact that her desire is burning within her but her brain holds her back. She also laments the fact that the world often operates in ways that are counter to what one hopes for, and that this can result in missed opportunities and unfulfilled desires.
The repeated refrain of "qué pena" (what a shame) is both an expression of the singer's heartache and a commentary on the inevitability of disappointment and frustration in romantic relationships. The imagery of the wolves lurking behind her and the wild beast within her lover's heart speak to the primal, visceral nature of desire and the fear that it can inspire. The final lines of the song encourage the listener to let go of their inhibitions and simply enjoy life, even if it means taking risks and "playing just to play."

Qué pena
It's a pity
Que esta noche no haya luna llena
That there's no full moon tonight
Para que me coman toda entera
So that the wolves that come behind me can devour me whole
Los lobos que vienen detrás
The wolves that come behind me
Y alivien mi soledad
And alleviate my loneliness
Que no pase nunca lo que esperas
That what you expect never happens
Que la sangre corra por mis venas
That blood flows through my veins
Y no se desborde jamás
And never overflows
Se rinde antes de pelear
It surrenders before fighting
el deseo me quema
Desire burns me
y el cerebro me frena
And the brain stops me
que esta noche amanezca
That tonight dawns
y que yo no te pueda encontrar
And I can't find you
si la piel me condena
If my skin condemns me
lo demás me encadena
The rest chains me up
cuántos labios esperan
How many lips wait
Que otras bocas los quieran besar
For other mouths to want to kiss them
Que nunca nos soltemos de la rienda
That we never let go of the reins
Que no se despierte aquella fiera
That that beast doesn't wake up
Que duerme en el fondo de ti
That sleeps deep within you
Y no se atreve a saltar
And doesn't dare to jump
Por eso digo yo qué pena
That's why I say what a pity
No perder a veces la cabeza
Not losing your head sometimes
No ponerse el mundo por montera
Not taking on the world recklessly
Y dejar de pensar
And stop thinking
Y al final jugar sólo por jugar
And in the end, play just for the sake of playing
