The Brightest Green
Anarbor Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It was late last night before she hit me up,
And baby, don't you know nothing good happens after midnight?
You see the night before I couldn't keep my hands off her,
Yeah I wanted to drink her up.
Her body burned like a fire and I knew, I knew I couldn't take anymore from her.

I'm burn burn burning,
My stomachs turning,
My hearts giving into my eyes.
I'm stare stare staring
At the skin she's sharing,
My hearts giving into my eyes.
Now its too late, for me its too late,
I'm burn burn burning, yeah my hearts giving into my eyes.

She stood 5'4
She had the brightest green id ever seen, I've never seen these eyes before.
And just like that I was hypnotized.
I sit back, I roll fat, thinking of you
And I knew I couldn't take anymore from her.

I'm burn burn burning,
My stomachs turning,
My hearts giving into my eyes.
I'm stare stare staring
At the skin shes sharing,
My hearts giving into my eyes.
Not it's too late, for me it's too late,
I'm burn burn burning, yeah my hearts giving into my eyes.

I'm sweating bullets like a boy that has just been caught,
You say your love is all I need, but I don't need a lot.
You say you're sorry but I know that you're not [Repeat: x2]

I'm burn burn burning,
My stomachs turning,
My hearts giving into my eyes.
I'm stare stare staring
At the skin shes sharing,
My hearts giving into my eyes.
Now its too late, for me its too late,
I'm burn burn burning, yeah my hearts giving into my eyes.

Now its too late, for me its too late,
I'm burn burn burning, yeah my hearts giving into my eyes.

Overall Meaning

The song “The Brightest Green” by Anarbor is a tale of a passionate but tumultuous romance that leads to a burning desire that the singer cannot contain nor resist. It begins with a late-night message from the woman he’s involved with, and the singer expresses the cliché warning that nothing good happens after midnight. However, he is obviously unable to resist her allure, and describes her as having the “brightest green” eyes he’s ever seen, which immediately catches his attention and hypnotizes him. He continues to recount their wild times together and how he wants to consume her entirely, only to admit that he cannot take any more from her, thus bringing to light the unpredictability and danger of their relationship.

Throughout the song, he describes the physical and emotional toll that his desire for her has on him. He feels his heart giving in to his eyes as he stares at the skin she’s sharing with him, and his stomach is turning. He knows he has reached a point of no return, as he acknowledges that it’s too late for him and that he is burning up. The climax is reached when he hears her declaration of love but is simultaneously aware that she does not mean it. He ultimately knows that the relationship is not sustainable, that he cannot handle the intensity and the danger between them and that it is too late to turn back.

Overall, “The Brightest Green” is a compelling and scorching account of an alluring, enigmatic woman that the singer cannot resist. This story is told through a combination of primal, lust-filled lyrics and passionate, almost desperate vocals.

Facts

@AwesomeBlueDrumGurl

I've met this entire band about a month ago. I caught them as we were leaving the venue and and met them, and they're all such sweethearts. They told me that one of their basses got stolen while I was talking to them, and yet they still had time to sign stuff for us. I felt terrible for them cause they're such nice guys. I don't know why somebody would wanna steal from them :(
