Back In The Day
Anchondo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And little smoked up on some dope
A little chocked up, really stocked
I remember that, I remember that
[Chorus]
Smiles big across my face
It's taken me to a better place
I remember that, I remember that
Back in the day I was always wasted away
Back in the day who wasn't wasted away
Back in the day all my friends were all wasted away
Back in the day who wasn't wasted away
And there I was, I don't lie
Really drunk on a bottle of wine
So damn out of it I lost my mind
I remember that, I remember that
[Chorus]
Back in the day I was always wasted away
Back in the day who wasn't wasted away
Back in the day all my friends were all wasted away
Back in the day who wasn't wasted away
Anchondo's song "Back In The Day" speaks to the experiences of being young and reckless, particularly regarding drug and alcohol use. The singer recalls specific moments of being "smoked up on some dope" and "really drunk on a bottle of wine." Despite the risky behavior, the singer looks back on these memories with a sense of nostalgia and fondness. The chorus emphasizes this sentiment by describing how these experiences took the singer "to a better place" and brought a "smile big across my face."
The lyrics also allude to how the singer's behavior was normalized within their social circle. The repeated refrain of "Back in the day I was always wasted away / Back in the day who wasn't wasted away / Back in the day all my friends were all wasted away" suggests that substance use was a common occurrence among the singer's peer group. This could indicate a larger cultural phenomenon in which young people use drugs and alcohol as a means of escape and social bonding.
Overall, "Back In The Day" is a wistful reflection on the reckless abandon of youth, particularly regarding substance use. The song captures both the thrill and danger of these experiences, while also acknowledging the impact they had on shaping the singer's identity and sense of nostalgia.
