Am I Wrong
Anderson .Pakk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well I
Well I

I'm only comin' out to play
Nothin' more that I hate in this life
The wrong impression, I only have one to make
You can open your palm
Waiting to catch a break
The cards will fall where they may
And what about me?
I believe in fate
They wanna know where I'll be in five
But what about today?
What about tonight?

Only one at a time
So precious, is yours, is mine
Only one at a time
My life, my life

Am I wrong to assume
If she can't dance, then she can't ooh?
Am I wrong to say
If she can't dance, then she can't ooh?

I never wanna waste your time, my life
So precious, is yours, is mine
And look at the time, my God
So precious, is yours, is mine
Only one at a time
So precious, is yours, is mine
Only one at a time
My life, my life

Smiles around the clock
Dance around the globe to Disco 54
I stare at you in the eyes and spin you on your toes
Music ain't music without soul
Feelin' the top row
Shut the blindfolds, pass the nitro
Rock the love boat, get high or get low
Chill the Merlot, steady your fast pour
You pick up, we gon' go
Make love once more, we rest and encore
Do that-that-that
Break you off in your Kit-Kat-Kat
Never seen a one this gorgeous
Pay your whole damn mortgage
Will you look at the time?
Still you the one on the mind
Still you the top of the line
Thank God that it's Friday
Tonight let's be the life of the party
It's nothing to me
Get up and move your feet

I never wanna waste your time, my life
So precious, is yours, is mine
And look at the time, my God
So precious, is yours, is mine

I never wanna waste your time, my life
So precious, is yours, is mine

And look at the time, my God
So precious, is yours, is mine

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Anderson .Paak's "Am I Wrong" explore themes of living in the present moment, fate, and the value of time. The song opens with a declaration that the singer is only coming out to play and that there is nothing in life that he hates more than the wrong impression. He emphasizes the importance of making a good impression through the metaphor of catching a break, suggesting that good things will come to those who present themselves well. The chorus poses a rhetorical question about dancing and implies that the ability to dance is indicative of something deeper - whether it's joy or the capacity to let loose.

The second verse continues with the idea of cherishing time and enjoying life in the moment. The song takes on a more celebratory tone as it describes the joy of dancing and being alive. The call to "rock the love boat" and "get high or get low" urges the listener to live life to the fullest, and the references to Disco 54 suggest the spirit of the song is rooted in a desire for freedom and uninhibited joy. The final chorus emphasizes once again the value of time and the importance of not wasting it.

Overall, "Am I Wrong" is a song about living in the moment and embracing life's pleasures. It encourages the listener to let go of their inhibitions and embrace the present, all while valuing time as a precious commodity.

Love this. Enjoy watching you react to AP’s performances. I always learn something but happy to have a fellow .Paak fan. How do you make a serious protest song like Lockdown so groovy and funky that you turn it into a dance tune? How? Talent.

So watched biopic on James Brown a few days ago and it explained so much. Worth a watch if you haven’t seen it.

First, JB started out as a gospel singer like so many black musicians. That is the root of the FUNK sound. Andy learned to play drums from watching other church drummers.

Second, everyone associates strong bass lines with funk, but there is a scene where JB says it’s drums. Every instrument in funk is a drum! Bruno said he had never created music where everything is driven by drums. That is the source of the SS sauce. Bruno’s vocals are phenomenal, but folks are missing how the drums are what is elevating the music. Remember the drumming in Put on a Smile when Bruno hit that note. Incredible, but it was the drumming that built the anticipation that ended it with that note.

Which leads me to the third point. A defining element of black church music is call and response. This is all over JB’s music and Andy’s music and now SS and it’s done not just with vocals but with instruments too. The call and response you pointed out between T’Nava on keys and AP on drums was a fantastic point and illustration of that.

Lastly, creating a groove where the groove IS the hook. Doesn’t really matter what the vocal hook is because your body is already moving before a word is uttered.

I am in amazement that AP isn’t even more of a superstar. His natural groove, versatility, and joy and love of music doesn’t I guess translate as easily on recordings, but God what a talent!

You might enjoy listening to some JB. I think .Paak is the rightful heir to the JB legacy. Let me know what you think.

Anderson has changed and refined the choreography for sure, he’s grown in such a great way. Still uniquely him but just refined what he does vocally and still kept what we love about him. So cheeky, funny, talented, amazing. And he’s taking the wigs to another level…but that smile and his talents are clearly true to him only. Love wha he’s doing.mThey just announced a tour here, the day I leave for Japan. Oh noooooo! Dates aren’t confirmed for them yet so I’m hoping they come a bit earlier or later so I can finally see them.😂🎉🐨👏🏼🔥🔥🔥
