Wild Weekend
Anderson Bill Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Got the alarm clock set for seven got the taxi called for nine
Plane takes off at eleven and I gotta be there on time
Told the boss I was going to my mother's told mama I was gonna see a friend
Don't want no one to know I'm slippin' out of town on a wild weekend
Gonna have a wild weekend gonna have a wild weekend
With the pretty little blond haired blue eyed darling gonna have a wild weekend

Well we might go up to the mountains we might go down to the sea
Somewhere off from the big wide world just my baby and me
Baby's gonna cook me breakfast baby's gonna tuck me in
Baby's gonna warm my cold cold lips with kisses on a wild weekend
Gonna have a wild weekend...

I guess we'll talk about the future make a lotta plans and stuff
Mostly though we're just gonna sit by the fire and make a lotta love
Every man oughta try it least one time in his life
Just get away on a wild weekend like I'm gonna do with my wife

Gonna have a wild weekend gonna have a wild weekend
With the pretty little mother of my two children gonna have a wild weekend

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Anderson Bill's song "Wild Weekend" describe a man's plan to spend some time away with his lover, without anyone knowing. He sets his alarm for seven and calls a taxi for nine so that he can catch a plane at eleven, and tells his boss that he is going to his mother's and his mother that he is going to see a friend. He wants to keep this a secret and have a wild weekend away with his "pretty little blond haired blue-eyed darling". They plan to go to the mountains or the sea, somewhere away from the busy world, and just spend time together. He expects her to cook breakfast, tuck him in, and warm his cold lips with kisses.

The lyrics also suggest that they will talk about their future and make plans but mostly just sit by the fire and make love. The man thinks that every man should have a wild weekend away with his lover at least once in his life because it is an experience like no other. The song is upbeat and paints a romantic picture of a couple spending time alone in a secluded place.

What a great record! Bill's one of the greatest songwriters ever! And I love his performances, this being one of his best!

I first heard the song when I was a youngster of 9 years old. Being young, like that, I really didn't understand the words. I was blown away with the repeating motive in the bass line. That really caught my attention, and my musical loved hearing that motive going through all the chord changes. About two years later, I would start playing the guitar, and I learned to play those bass runs by ear. Now, more than 50 years later, I like it even more, listening to the words and instrumental parts in context. This is by far my favorite Bill Anderson tune!

Love old country music like this wish they would play more music like this these days

Heard a radio commentary talking about this song once. They said in 1969 when this song hit the circuit, radio stations were hesitant to play it because of it's suggestive nature at the beginning of the song. Once that first radio station decided to play the song and everyone heard the very end of it .. it went viral! I remember this song well. Love it then, still do.
