en kjik dan op z'n klok,
het is de hoogste tijd,
iedereen drinkt snel z'n glas leeg,
u komt hier toch weer.
Er wordt aan de bel getrokken,
de laatste is van mij,
dan gaan we snel naar huis,
wie denkt er aan mij,
ik heb toch ook 'n huis.
Aan de tafel in de hoek,
daar zit 'n man alleen,
u komt hier toch weer.
De kelner roept kom op nou mensen,
't is de hoogste tijd,
ook ik heb 'n gezin,
want zij weet hoe laat we sluiten,
u kom hier toch weer.
The song 'Het Laatste Rondje' by Andre Hazes is a melancholic portrayal of the end of an evening in a bar when the patrons have to leave and go back to their mundane lives. As the clock strikes, everyone gulps their drinks, and the last round of drinks are served before the final bell rings. Through the lyrics, we can see a glimpse of life at the bar, where people come to forget their problems, have fun, and share good times. The singer and the bar staff seem to have a keen sense of understanding of their patrons and their struggles. They know the people who come to the bar are just like them, with their sets of problems and sorrows, and the bar serves as a refuge.
The song beautifully captures the essence of Dutch bar culture, where people come to share their stories and laugh over drinks. We see a man sitting alone in a corner, who contemplates his life for a while, knowing that when he steps out, nobody would remember him. The bar staff beckons everyone to leave, reminding them that they have duties waiting for them outside. The song is not only about the end of an evening but also about the inevitability of life, which eventually catches up with people, regardless of how much they try to forget it.
The nuances in the song's lyrics reflect the power of Hazes's storytelling, making it one of his most popular songs. The lyrics are poignant and bittersweet, conveying a sense of loss at the end of the night. Hazes's powerful vocals, combined with the melancholic melody, make the song an emotional and touching rendition of life at the bar.
