His first big hit was Eenzame Kerst ("Lonely Christmas"). In 1979 he signed a contract with EMI, and soon after that his career started to take off. Een Vriend ("A Friend") and Een Beetje Verliefd ("A Little Bit In Love)" were both top ten hits of his.
On september 23, 2004 André Hazes was struck by a cardiac arrest which resulted in his death. Four days later a ceremony was held in the Amsterdam Arena where ten thousands of fans paid respect to one of the most popular Dutch singers of the late 20th century. The next day his last single Zij gelooft in mij ("She believes in me") became number one in the Dutch charts.
Volgens Mij Ben Ik Getrouwd

Een vrouw die zegt good morning man
Ik wil nu weg niets houd me tegen
Ze vroeg pease kiss me one's again
In this song, André Hazes sings about waking up next to a woman he doesn't recognize and realizing that he may be married. He questions how he ended up in this situation and wonders where he is. There is a sense of regret and shame in the lyrics, as Hazes reflects on the consequences of his actions.
The line, "Een lege fles onder m'n kussen" (an empty bottle under my pillow), suggests that Hazes had been drinking heavily the night before, leading to his current situation. He had intended not to drink, but couldn't resist temptation. He also mentions the smell of "hasj" (hash), indicating that he may have been using drugs as well.
The woman in the song begs Hazes to stay with her, even though he wants to leave and is clearly unhappy with the situation. He feels trapped and ashamed, and wants to escape before it's too late. I don't know what to say later / Just forget that I exist), show how deeply Hazes regrets his actions and wants to avoid facing the consequences.
