Can't Help Falling In Love
Andrea Bocelli Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wise men say
Only fools rush in
But I can't help
Falling in love with you

Shall I stay
Would it be a sin
If I can't help
Falling in love with you

Like a river flows
Surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to be

So take my hand
Take my whole life, too
For I can't help
Falling in love with you

Some things are meant to be

Take my hand
Take my whole life, too
For I can't help
Falling in love with you

For I can't help
Falling in love with you

Overall Meaning

The first two lines, "Wise men say, only fools rush in," is a proverb that warns people against the dangers of impulsive love. It's a message that advocates for taking time to think before getting into a relationship. However, the singer (possibly Andrea Bocelli or Katharine McPhee) argues that she cannot help but fall in love with the person in question. The following line, "But I can't help, Falling in love with you," demonstrates the point of view of the singer.

In the second stanza, the comparison is drawn between the inevitability of a river flowing towards the sea, and how the singer's love for the other person is also preordained. The next line, "Darling so it goes, somethings are meant to be," may imply that the singer believes that their love is predestined and that it's futile to try to resist it.

In the finale, the song's chorus is repeated, and the singer apparently forms an attachment to the person who is the song's subject. "Take my hand, take my whole life too" is essentially an offer to give all of herself to the person she loves, who is apparently the "you" referred to in the song from the perspective of the first person.

I had this wedding shower or bachelor/bachelorette party with my first wife.
She gave me a microphone & the deal is thanking everybody for coming to the party & celebrate with us before the wedding.
I was nervous & didn’t know what to say, so I ask her is there anything you want me to say or do?
She told me to sing her & her grandmother’s favorite song from Elvis.
Of course everybody agreed with her for me to sing in front of people.
Thankfully I can sing decent enough to fulfill her wishes.
People were so amazed & my wife loves me even more & beg me to sing her that song every night.

Just got married not too long ago. Nov 18, 2023
