Nessun Dorma
Andrea Bocelli Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Nessun dorma
Nessun dorma
Tu pure, o Principessa
Nella tua fredda stanza
Guardi le stelle
Che tremano d'amore
E di speranza
Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me
Il nome mio nessun saprà, no, no
Sulla tua bocca lo dirò
Quando la luce splenderà
Ed il mio bacio scioglierà
Il silenzio che ti fa mia

(Il nome suo nessun saprà
E noi dovrem, ahimè, morir, morir)

Dilegua, o notte
Tramontate, stelle
Tramontate, stelle
All'alba vincerò

Vincerò
Vincerò

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Andrea Bocelli's song "Nessun Dorma" are very poetic and rich with meaning. The song is written in Italian, and it is about a man who is deeply in love with a princess. He knows that he cannot have her, but he still dreams of her and thinks about her constantly. He speaks directly to the princess, urging her to look at the stars in her cold room, which are trembling with love and hope.

However, the man's true identity is a mystery, known only to himself. He reveals that his name will never be known, but he promises to tell the princess when the light shines bright. He believes that his kiss will break the silence that makes the princess his own. The song ends with the man calling on the night to fade and the stars to set, because he knows that he will triumph in the morning, even though he knows he will die. The lyrics are very romantic and full of passion, telling a tale of unrequited love and the desire to be with someone.

No sleep, no sleep
Nessun dorma, nessun dorma

You too, o, Princess
Tu pure, o, Principessa

In your cold room
Nella tua fredda stanza

Look at the stars that tremble
Guardi le stelle che tremano

Of love and hope
D'amore e di speranza

But my mystery is closed in me
Ma il mio mistero e chiuso in me

No one will know my name
Il nome mio nessun saprà

No, no, I'll say it on your mouth
No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò

And my kiss will break the silence
Ed il mio bacio scioglierà il silenzio

That makes you mine
Che ti fa mia

I've started learning Italian a week ago and came here to listen to this masterpiece to motivate me even more. I hadn't listened to this for quite some time.

Damn, I have no words.
I got goosebumps all the way down to my legs. I felt this extremely heartwarming and intense emotion I can't really explain. What a beautiful emotion it was.
Few singers and songs can make me feel this strong of an emotion.

This is an absolute masterpiece.
And Andrea Bocelli is an absolute unforgettable legend.

Thank you 🇮🇹 for this. Il mio livello di motivazione per imparare l'italiano è alle stelle dopo aver ascoltato questo capolavoro!

Two weeks ago my wife of 38 years died of brain cancer. She wanted this aria to be played at her death. As she was being led out of the hospice the care givers all stood in the hall and bowed their heads as this was played. The recording ended as we were leaving. It ends with an ovation for Bocelli. My daughter commented that the ovation could have been for my dear wife, Tricia, for a life well lived.

@10.YEARS.TO.CHANGE.MY.NAME.

I want to believe this but I'm skeptical about it.

@@10.YEARS.TO.CHANGE.MY.NAME. I wish it wasn't true and she was still with me. Tricia Schneider died at 1:45pm on June 16th at the Agrace Hospice Center in Fitchburg, WI. Agrace arranges for the deceased to be led out to the funeral director's hearse to whatever music you choose. The staff all stands in the aisle out of respect to the person who has just passed away..

I know God himself was in the room with you during that moment, and is with you still
