O Sole Mio
Andrea Bocelli Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Che bella cosa è na jurnata e sole,
n'aria serena doppo na tempesta!
Pe' ll aria fresca pare già na festa
che bella cosa na jurnata e sole.
Ma n'atu sole
cchiu bello, oi ne'
o sole mio
sta nfronte a te!
O sole, o sole mio
sta nfronte a te
sta nfronte a te!

Quanno fa notte e o sole se ne scenne,
me vene quase na malincunia
sotto a fenesta toia restarria
quanno fa notte e o sole se ne scenne.
Ma n'atu sole
Cchiu bello, oi ne'
o sole mio
sta nfronte a te!
O sole, o sole mio

sta nfronte a te
sta nfronte a te!

Overall Meaning

The song "O Sole Mio" is a well-known and beloved Neapolitan song. It is about the beauty of a sunny day and the warmth of the sun's rays. The lyrics describe a peaceful, calm atmosphere that follows a storm, with fresh breezes and clear skies. The singer then describes how his own personal sun is even more beautiful, and that it shines in the face of the person he loves.

The second verse of the song describes a woman doing laundry and singing outside of her window. The singer is struck by the beauty of the sunlight shining through the window, and again notes that his own personal sun is even brighter. The final verse of the song acknowledges that the day must eventually end, and that the singer feels a sense of sadness when the sun goes down. He ends the song by again proclaiming his love for the person who is the sun in his life.

Che bella cosa na jurnata 'e sole,
What a beautiful thing a sunny day is,

n'aria serena doppo na tempesta!
The calm air after a storm!

Pe' ll'aria fresca pare gia' na festa...
The fresh air makes it feel like a celebration...

'O sole, 'o sole mio,
My sun, my own sun,

sta 'nfronte a te!
is in front of you!

Lùcene 'e llastre d'a fenesta toia;
The panes of your window are shining;

'na lavannara canta e se ne vanta
A laundry woman is singing and boasting,

e pe' tramente torce, spanne e canta
As she wrings, hangs, and sings,

Quanno fa notte e 'o sole se ne scenne,
When night comes and the sun goes down,

me vene quase 'na malincunia;
I feel a sense of melancholy;

sotto 'a fenesta toia restarria
I would stay beneath your window

'O sole, 'o sole mio,
My sun, my own sun,

sta 'nfronte a te!
is in front of you!

@Aigazi Gadjiev Microphone is used normally because Bocelli doesn't perform in opera houses, but he sing in the indoor arenas or big stadiums, and in these spaces you must have microphone...Pavarotti also had microphone in the Three Tenors Concerts...

I attended Andrea Bocelli’s 12 December 2021concert at the Capital One center in Washington DC and he sang this beautifully.
