Going Nowhere
Andrea Parker Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Pictures in my mind
Dissolving in a jet
Taking time to rewind
New direction
Passagers in the dark
Shadows from below
Going nowhere (repeat)
Apart from the obvious
Nothing is what it seems
Silence between the light
Of a hidden ? ? scene/seem/seed/seize? ?
New direction
Lost connections to the past
Going nowhere
Moving too far
Going nowhere (repeat)
Andrea Parker's song Going Nowhere seems to have a sense of desperation and confusion in its lyrics. Through the stained glass window, the singer sees pictures in her mind dissolving in a jet, indicating that she is trying to escape from something. She takes time to rewind, as if she is trying to go back in time to find answers. However, apart from the obvious, nothing is what it seems. The silence between the light suggests that there is something hidden that has yet to be discovered. The new direction that she is taking seems to have lost connections to the past, leaving shadows from below that are leaving a mark. The repetition of the phrase "going nowhere" suggests that the singer is stuck and unable to move forward in any meaningful way.
The lyrics seem to suggest a feeling of helplessness and frustration that many people can relate to. The singer is trying to escape from something and is taking a new direction, but she is still stuck and unable to move forward. The silence between the light suggests that there is something important that is missing, and the repetition of the phrase "going nowhere" underscores the singer's sense of being stuck.
