Rocking Chair
Andrea Parker Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I captured from a star
So far in the distance
Yet so near to my heart
As moments such as this (4x)
I walk into another day
Never realize the time
Of which is mine
As moments such as this (4x)
Behind you
The memories still stay
I captured from the stars
So far in the distance
Yet so near to my heart
As moments such as this
(repeat all over)
In Andrea Parker's song "The Rocking Chair," the lyrics reflect a sense of nostalgia and the enduring power of memories. The opening lines, "The memories still stay, I captured from a star," suggest that the singer holds onto precious memories that have remained with them over time. These memories are described as being both distant and yet intimately connected to the singer's heart.
The repetition of the line "Moments such as this" throughout the song adds to the theme of reminiscing and reflecting on past experiences. It implies that there are certain moments in life that stand out and leave a lasting impression. These moments, whether joyful or bittersweet, are characterized by a disregard for time and an emotional connection to the singer's personal journey.
The lyrics also hint at the passing of time and the realization that each day represents a new chapter in the singer's life. The line "Never realize the time, a chapter of my life, of which is mine" suggests a subtle acceptance of the inevitable progression and evolution of life.
Overall, "The Rocking Chair" evokes a sense of longing for the past, the power of cherished memories, and the recognition of the continuous and transformative nature of life.

A Rob Dougan masterpiece.

Why only Rob Dougan? I understand that he was a co-producer, but not the sole author of the work.

I remember all those years ago, buying this record on the basis of Parker's reputation and previous work; When I first listened to it I was convinced it was a bad joke, but no; that really was the record I'd just spent my money on. It remains to this day, the only time I have ever taken anything back to a shop on the basis of dissatisfaction with the product. They even gave me store credit, bless them. (Falcon records, Weymouth; sadly missed)
I thought I'd see if maturity helped me to appreciate the record now, but no I still hate it as much as I did then.
No hating for the upload though. :)

This was only her second single, and had some good mixes on it.
